8th Annual Dale Hollow Classic Registrations Go Live Tuesday Morning

Registrations go live Tuesday morning for Byrdstown’s 8th Annual Dale Hollow Spring Bass Classic on April 23rd and 24th.

Mayor Sam Gibson said that the buddy tournament is perfect for both seasoned and new fishermen. He said sometimes pairs will be a father and son, a husband and wife, or even just two pals.

“And you know whenever you go out fishing it’s like anything else,” Gibson said. “Whoever gets on the fish and has a good day has a good chance of winning the tournament, so you never know. Plus, it gives you an opportunity to have a good time with a friend while you are competing.”

Gibson said that last year’s tournament was the biggest he’d ever seen with over 100 boats fishing on Dale Hollow Lake. He said that competitors have the chance to win money that covers the registration cost and more.

Gibson said that one of the best parts about the tournament is that it has little impact on the fish supply in Dale Hollow Lake. He said that all bass caught are returned to waters.

“They’re not allowed to take them with them and take them home,” Gibson said. “Occasionally, unfortunately, one will die. We hate that, but occasionally we know if somebody’s live well doesn’t work very well it has a chance to die and if that’s the case we’ll have to take it out. But most of the fish turn right back in to the lake so it’s a good sporting event and yet you’re not taking away from Dale Hollow Lake and still leaving plenty of fish out there for the normal sportsman to go out on the weekend, weekday and still have a good chance of catching fish.”

Gibson said that the main thing they’re trying to accomplish is to showcase the lake and natural beauty of the area.
