Captain Benton Young was announced as the successful candidate for the Cookeville Fire Department Chief position on Thursday.
Young has served as the interim chief since Daryl Blair’s retirement in July. He is a Cookeville native with more than 32 years of experience in the fire service. When he was just 18, he volunteered with the Putnam County Fire Department which led him to pursue a full-time fire service career with the Cookeville Fire Department. He has been with CFD since 1996.
Young will officially begin his designation as Chief on Monday, December 13th.
“It is an honor and a privilege that I have been selected to represent the men and women of the Cookeville Fire Department,” Young said in a press release. “It is rewarding to serve the citizens of my hometown. I look forward to continuing to serve the City of Cookeville and leading the department into the future.”
