YMCA Offering Free Self Improvement Challenge

Instead of using New Year’s resolutions for improvement, the Putnam County YMCA is challenging you to a fresh 2021 start.

Outreach Director Jenny Thacker said the Reset Challenge is six-weeks of free activities designed to help individuals transform their overall lives, not just an individual aspect.

“Last year was a difficult year for our community, for our world for that matter,” Thacker said. “And, we just wanted to start out 2021 fresh and just have a whole reset for our whole community.”

The event goes further than just physical improvements. Thacker said activities also focus on the spirit and mind.

“Every week we are going to have a new theme and new endeavor to take on,” Thacker said. “We are going to reset. We are going to refresh. We are going to reconnect. We are going to replay, reinvest and restore. Every week we are going to have a a different challenge in mind.”

Thacker said activities range from getting your daily exercise to rekindling friendships. Thacker said going through the six weeks with a partner will help with your success.

“Every week everybody is going to be challenged to have 150 minutes of some kind of physical activity. so every week we will have that,” Thacker said. “But then on the other weeks we may have some kind of nutrition challenge in mind or one is to reconnect. So, connecting to family members or friends you have not seen for a while.”

Thacker said to join text the word “Reset,” 1-883-244-1133. Through that, you will receive weekly guidelines on how to participate starting Monday.
