Whitsons Named Farm Family Of The Year By Putnam Farm Bureau

Jeremy and Kim Whitson of Whitson Farms LLC have been named the 2023 Farm Family of the Year.

The award came from the Putnam County Farm Bureau’s annual meeting. Jeremy Whitson said he was honored and humbled by the recognition.

“It’s being active, it doesn’t have anything to do with the size of your family or the size of your farm,” Whitson said. “I think in essence it’s truly about the family that you create and the family you’re trying to reach. In my mind, that’s what I think it’s truly about.”

Whitson said he and his wife dedicate much of their time to agriculture advocacy and being present in the community. He said they are active with Farm Bureau, the Cattlemen’s Association and the Tennessee Beef Commodity Association.

Whitson said Whitson Farms has locations in both Overton and Putnam County. He said they raise Black Hereford and Black Angus cattle for seedstock for commercial producers.

“Just basically breed cows and supply other herds with better quality of cattle,” Whitson said. “And that’s what we strive to do. We strive to grow good cattle to create a better herd. That’s truly what we do.”

Whitson said he hopes the recognition will continue their mission of growing awareness for agriculture advocacy. He said this has created another platform where his message can spread even further.

“It doesn’t matter how big your farm is, whether you have five cows or 5,000 cows, you’re still an active member of the agriculture community,” Whitson said. “What you have means something and it serves a purpose.”
