White County moving forward with the purchase of a truck to haul equipment for the Emergency Management Agency.
County Executive Denny Wayne Robinson said the department needs a bigger vehicle in order to handle their equipment trailer. Robinson said they have been getting more and more gear through grants so their current vehicle has become obsolete.
“EMA has an SUV but wanted the truck,” Robinson said. “So if we end up buying a truck for EMA, taking that SUV, we’re going to give that to the codes department, taking that truck that the codes department had, giving it to the highway department. And the highway department is giving, then going to replace the vehicle that the litter pickup had. So it’s kind of a big circle.”
Robinson said the exchange of vehicles is especially helpful because the one previously used for litter pickup was totaled after it was hit by a car that ran a stop sign. Robinson said the building codes department currently has a truck but wants the SUV they will be receiving instead.
“Now when I say new truck, it is not new,” Robinson said. “It is a used vehicle we bought off GovDeals. But nonetheless they (were) needing, wanting a truck, three-quarter tons to be able to pull vehicles and stuff.”
Finance Director Chad Marcum said they were able to find money they could move around within the budget to be able to afford the purchase. The county commission will consider the $18,000 purchase on Monday, September 16.
