A community baby shower will provide local resources and connections to new and expecting White County moms.
The shower will be held at Sparta Civic Center Friday. The White County Health Department’s Ashley Roberts said the shower brings all of the information new moms and expecting moms need to know to one place.
“I do feel like there is more of a need of events like this in our rural communities, just so that way that mother or that expectant mom feels the support that we can give her from all of our little vendors, our resources that are local here,” Roberts said.
Roberts said she feels like since COVID, many moms and expecting moms have been unaware of what resources are available to them locally, lacking a support system. This shower will allow moms to make connections with other moms as well as local organizations.
“Having this event and them(moms) being able to meet somebody in their community that could be a good resource for them kind of makes them feel more supported, and they also feel like they are going to be heard more.” Roberts said.
Roberts said the department is urging moms to bring children in car seats or ones they need buckled in. Attendees will have the option to have their car seat checked by local police and staff to ensure it is buckled in correctly.
Roberts said the shower will host up to 15 different vendors handing out information on resources. Mothers who actively participate actively by going to each vendor station will have the opportunity to win door prizes.
