White County Jail Could Lose State Certification

State officials may decertify the White County Jail.

A recent tour of the facility found the jail to be overcrowded. Inspectors also said the jail did not meet the state’s minimum standards.

County Executive Denny Wayne Robinson said the county has until September 6th to come up with a corrective action plan.

“Right now we are in the process of getting a committee together and getting some jail experts to come in so we can start to get a plan of action together to correct the problem,” Robinson said.

Robinson said if the jail does lose state certification it would mean that the jail could no longer house state inmates, which would mean a loss of revenue for the county.
