White County Director of Schools Asks To Renew Contract Early

White County Director of Schools Kurt Dronebarger formally requested a review of his contract Thursday night.

Dronebarger is in the last year of his current four-year agreement. He said he wants to negotiate six months ahead of schedule. Dronebarger said he presented the board with a summary of his performance to justify his request.

“I’ve dedicated 26 years of faithful service to White County Schools, and I’ve led this district with what I believe is strength and integrity,” Dronebarger said. “My desire is to complete my career in this district, and this new contract would be a part of that plan. I’m open to any discussions with individual board members, and I stand poised to answer any questions you may have.”

Dronebarger said he is not seeking a change in compensation at this time. Chairman Bob Young said a special meeting is likely to be called for the negotiations, which will be open to the public.

“There are time limits that come into play here on this,” Young said. “And we want to make sure that we respect that as far as giving the public notice on when that review and those negotiations will take place.”

Dronebarger served as a middle school teacher and elementary principal before taking over as director.

“Addressing this issue now will provide the school board and me with a more prudent timeline should a transition occur,” Dronebarger said.

In other business, the board changed the policy for how it handles meeting agendas. Members are now permitted to move items from the consent agenda to new business for more discussion as they see fit.

In addition, board member Jayson McDonald said he was concerned about an upcoming fundraiser for the White County High School’s band at the Calfkiller Brewing Company. McDonald said he worried about exposing minors to alcohol.
