White County High School in the process of upgrading its gym bleachers.
Director of Schools Kurt Dronebarger said the school is looking to replace the chairs on the lower floor that is used as reserved seating.
“We’ve had a lot of broken seats, we’ve been piecing them together and they’ve been there for many many years and we finally have run out of spares,” Dronebarger said. “So at this point, we’re just having to ask people who have bought them to maybe sit elsewhere or ask for a refund there was no fixing them at this point. So it just came to the point it was time to replace.”
Dronebarger said the school had originally ordered another set of bleachers but discovered they were the wrong type. He said they have since ordered correct the bleachers and will begin to install them hopefully by next ball season.
Dronebarger said the bleachers plus the upcharge to order the correct ones cost about $24,300. He said though costly, the investment is well worth it because of the high use they get.
“That gymnasium is not just a basketball or volleyball gym but it’s actually the largest-seated venue in our county so it’s largest used for multiple things,” Dronebarger said. “So it was important not just to the school but the community as a whole to go ahead and get these upgrades underway and completed.”
