White Co Forming Specs For New Disc Golf Course

White County preparing to put its disc golf course project out for bid.

County Executive Denny Wayne Robinson said the commission has approved to move forward. Robinson said the course specifics are currently being created with the goal to put the project out for bid in the coming weeks.

“It’s not like building a building or something where you have dimensions, and you know what you want it to look like,” Robinson said. “A disc golf, a lot of goals with the lay of the land and how many holes you want, it is a lot more complicated process to do bid specs. Bid specs have to be exact.”

Robinson said the idea for disc golf came from residents voicing they wanted somewhere to play. Robinson said the course will be created at the county’s sports complex off Smithville Highway.

“We have some land that we really couldn’t use for anything else,” Robinson said. “It is mountainous, hilly with lots of trees, and the disc golf association said that is the place that we need. It will be a challenge.”

Robinson said the county is working with disc golf players from Cookeville to make sure the needed amenities are there. Robinson said about $25,000 was included in the fiscal year budget to cover the costs.

“We have some preliminary estimates of construction of the disc golf,” Robinson said. “We’re going to boarder line whether or not if that needs to be a publicly bidded project.”
