White County’s Courthouse elevator remains out of commission, leaving the second and third floors without disability access.
County Executive Denny Wayne Robinson said it has been a challenge finding parts for the 45-year-old machine.
“Friday we finally located a way to do this and some parts, and they came and took the motor out Friday,” Robinson said. “They basically said they will put it in line and take care of it when they can.”
Robinson said for now, the goal is to get the elevator operational, and then, consider bidding out the work for a totally new system.
The county has received estimates of about $35,000 to fix the existing elevator, according to Robinson. Rewinding the motor would cost about $10,000.
