The cost per ton to dump at the White County landfill will go up by $10 in February of next year.
The White County Commission approved increasing the fee to $61.25. County Executive Denny Wayne Robinson said the idea is to improve the revenue generated by the landfill.
“There’s been a lot of spotlight on solid waste in White County in the past few months,” Robinson said. “The county commission has just went through everything possibly out there and going through the paperwork and stuff they saw it had not been addressed in a while. So they took it upon themselves to address it.”
Robinson said the new fee rate will mostly impact contractors and businesses. The county commission also increased the cost to rent roll-off and front-end garbage containers. Roll-off containers will cost $200 per month and front-end containers at $150.
As for the landfill cell for residential trash, Robinson said garbage is still being diverted. Robinson said the county continues the process to gain the needed state permits to open a new cell.
