White Co. Animal Shelter Hopes Reduced Rates Encourages Adoptions

White County Animal Shelter is offering reduced adoption prices through September 30th.

Shelter Manager Sarah Lawson said the shelter hopes the reduced rates would encourage more adoptions.

“We are actually overpopulated,” Lawson said. “I think a lot of our shelters around here, even nationwide, we are all overpopulated beyond capacity. So I think we’re just trying to encourage everyone to get out and look to adopt.”

Lawson said that they comfortably fit around 28 dogs, but have been sitting at 35 for some time. She said she attributes the overpopulation to a lack of spaying and neutering home animals and strays.

Lawson said the shelter believes if they drop their adoption price from $225 to $175, it could make it more feasible for dogs to find homes.

“No dog deserves the shelter life,” Lawson said. “I think this is just a temporary home for them. They’re all loved, they get well-taken care of, some say they’re more spoiled than other home dogs. Every dog deserves a good home.”
