New banners depicting Cookeville’s new city seal have gone up on light posts in downtown Cookeville.
Cookeville City Mayor Laurin Wheaton said the banners were a group effort led by Administrative Assistant Tracy Johnson. The Leisure Services Department staff installed the new banners.
“Being on city council I’m so honored and proud to represent and to serve Cookeville,” Wheaton said. “Its just another great little way to say you know here is something we’ve done. We’re proud of it. We want to make the city look good.”
The banners feature the city seal adopted in 2021. City Manager James Mills designed the new mark, which features images representing Dogwood Park, Cookeville Regional, Tennessee Tech, and the train depot. The seal is on the side of City Hall and on a flag above the police station.
“We are all working together to do something to make Cookeville look good,” Wheaton said. “It makes it really easy to do when you have everyone come together like that.”
Wheaton said the banners give residents the chance to show their community spirit. She said it’s also a chance to reach tourists coming to the area.
“When people do come to Cookeville we want them to see that we do take pride in our city and we do want you to come and hang out and shop and enjoy all the amenities the city has to offer,” Wheaton said. “I think just having the banners up, maintaining our downtown and not just maintaining it but making it an attractive place for people to visit will help people remember that Cookeville is a great area and to come back and stay here, chop here, play here, and all the great things.”
