Mable Christian, Age 76 of Crossville, passed away Wednesday, July 21 at her home. Arrangements are incomplete.
Sandra Yvonne Echols, 76 of Crossville, passed away on Tuesday, July 20 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. A Memorial Service will be held on a later date.
Ms. Tabitha Day Officer, affectionately known as Tabby, age 67 of Sparta, passed away Tuesday morning, July 20 at her residence. Arrangements are incomplete.
Funeral services for Mr. Robert Luther Brown, age 73 of Livingston, Overton Co., will be held on Thursday, July 22 at 11 AM from the Chapel of t he Hall Funeral Home of Livingston with burial to follow in the Okolona Cemetery in Livingston, Overton Co. Mr. Brown passed from this life at the Livingston Regional Hospital on Sunday, July 18. Robert served in the United States Army. Robert will be greatly missed by his family. Surving family includes his wife, Diana Brown; and son, Bobby ( Beverly) Brown. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening, July 21st starting at 5 PM to 8 PM.
Funeral services for Raymond John O’Connor, age 86 of Cookeville, will be held Thursday, July 22, 2021 beginning at 2:00 pm at Heavenly Host Lutheran Church located at 777 S. Willow Avenue Cookeville, TN 38501 with Pastor Andrew Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Cookeville. He passed from this life Monday, July 19, 2021, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Born Thursday, August 16, 1934 in Queens, New York, he was the son of the late Raymond and Madeline (Stamm) O’Connor. Raymond served in the Navy Reserves for 6 years then joined the U.S. Army. While in the Army he was deployed in Germany where he met his beautiful future wife Frieda. They were married in Queens, New York in 1959. Ray was known to always be a kind and considerate person that anyone could count on. He is survived by his loving devoted Wife Frieda O’Connor of Cookeville; 1 Daughter Cheryl Reed; 1 Son and Daughter-in-law Donald and Berniece O’Connor. The family will receive friends at Crest Lawn Funeral Home Wednesday, July 21, 2021 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
Funeral services for Joel “Joey” Hunter, 65, of Gainesboro, TN, will be held on Thursday, July 22, 2021, at 3 P.M. at Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Pharris Cemetery in the McCoinsville community of Jackson County. He passed away on Saturday, July 17, 2021, at his residence. He was born February 3, 1956, in Jackson County, TN, to the late Logan Rush and Minnie Mary Hunter Rush. On June 24, 1978, he was married to Maymie Hunter, who survives. He worked in construction, and was a member of the NRA. Survivors include his Wife: Maymie Hunter of Gainesboro, TN; 2 Daughters: Jennifer (Shawn) West and Katrina Hendricks, both of Gainesboro, TN; 2 Brothers: Frank (Judy) Eugene Stephens and Duane (Lori) Rush, both of Gainesboro, TN; 2 Sisters: Jeweldean (Ron) Disanti and Jenny (Ben) Anderson, both of Gainesboro. Bro. Jordan Bryant will officiate at the services. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 11 A.M. – 7 P.M., and Thursday from 11 A.M. until time of services. He was born in Dearborn, Michigan, on June 4, 1953, to Ovid Winningham and the late Faye Wright Winningham. Billy loved fishing, playing piano, and witnessing to others about his Faith. He also enjoyed reading books by Karen Kingsbury and J.R.R. Tolkein and travelling. Billy leaves behind his sons Ben Winningham and wife Kaycie of Livingston and Sam Winningham and wife Emily of Livingston; daughters Jen Poston and husband Scott of Livingston, Bekka Flowers and husband Russell of Livingston, Vicky Ford and husband Darren of Rickman, and Ellie Scott and husband Kevin of Livingston; father Ovid Winningham and wife Joy of Livingston. He Was A Member Of The Hanging Limb Freewill Baptist Church Where He Served As Deacon For 41 Years. He Was A United States Army Veteran. He Is Survived By His Wife Of 54 Years, Jo Anna Bowman Jones; and their children, Kimberly (Richard) Harris, and Johnny (Janet) Jones. Services for Billy Frank Carter, age 81 of Granville, will be held Friday, July 23 at 1 pm in the Chapel of Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home. Mr. Carter passed away on July 11 in Cookeville. He attended Jackson County High School and later married the love of his life, Ruth Elrod Carter, on March 3, 1957 in Smith County, Tennessee. In his early life, he worked in construction as an equipment operator best known for his bulldozer work. He was an avid horseman and farmer raising cattle and tobacco crops. His lifelong passion was breaking and training young horses and mules. Billy is survived by his loving wife, Ruth Carter; and his three children, Paul Carter, David Carter, and Barbra Green. Visitation with the family will from 12 noon to 1 pm.

Eugene McCowan and Derek Worley will officiate. Burial will be in Good Hope Cemetery. Mrs. Ledford passed from this life on Monday night from the Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born in Cumberland County on September 2, 1934, to the late Wilson and Sarah Swafford Stamps. Artie loved spending time with her family, cooking meals for them to enjoy, quilting, gardening, and listening to bluegrass and Gospel music. Mrs. Ledford leaves behind her daughter Linda Worley and husband Billy of Livingston. The family will welcome friends on Friday from 11 AM until time of services at 2 PM.
Funeral services for Mr. Oliver Stanton Cantrell, age 93 of Sparta, will be conducted 4:00pm Friday, July 23 in the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Highland Cemetery. Mr. Cantrell passed away Monday, July 19 at NHC of Sparta. Stanton worked 45 years for Sparta Electric System and served as a volunteer fireman for 36 years. He was a dynamic basketball and football player, starting as a freshman playing with almost all seniors. His big interest was golf, sometimes playing 36 holes a day. The best times were playing with his brothers – Edd, Jim and Bobby – for ice cream. They hated losing to Stanton, who could eat two or three cones. Stanton was a devoted life-long member of First Baptist Church, a long-time member of the Sparta Lions Club, and an avid Vols fan. The family extends a special thank you to Station 3 at NHC for the care and love they showed to Stanton, especially his special friend and nurse Nicki Basham. Stanton is lovingly survived by his wife of 73 years, Minnie Vea Miller Cantrell ; and daughter, Debra 9Rudy) Wilhite. A memorial service for S. Marie Stacy, 85 of Sparta, will be conducted 10:00am Saturday, July 24 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home in Sparta. Internment will follow in Bascom Cemetery near Morrison, beside Frank Stacy, her loving husband of 19 years. Mrs. Stacy quietly passed away at home on July 21st. Marie lived a full and beautiful life and lived each day to the fullest. She loved to sew, paint, garden, spoil her family, was always upbeat and positive and a joy to be around. She is survived by a loving family that includes three children. The family will receive friends from 9:00am until service time Saturday at Hunter Funeral Home.
Graveside services for Betty Sue Johnson Bradley, 92, of Henrico, Virginia, formerly of Cookeville, will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Cookeville City Cemetery. Born March 10, 1928, in Cookeville, TN, to the late Herschel J. and Nannie Pearl Johnson, the youngest of five children. She graduated Central High School in Cookeville and attended Tennessee Tech. She earned her teaching certificate and taught grade school. She married Clarence Eugene Bradley in Cookeville on November 11, 1949, and they moved to Washington, D.C., then Northern Virginia. She held various clerical and office management positions and eventually returned to teaching, substituting in Henrico County Public Schools. She is survived by two children, Walter Russell Bradley and Patricia Jean Bradley. Her family will receive friends Saturday, July 24th, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 AM at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home.
Funeral services for Mr. James (Jim) Staggs, age 60 of Rickman, Overton Co., will be held on Saturday, July 24 at 11 AM from the chapel of the Hall Funeral Home of Livingston with burial to follow in Harris Chapel Cemetery. Mr. Staggs passed from this life on Monday, July 19 at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was a logger by profession and worked hard for his family and he loved them all very much. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his three children, Jennifer Sells, Dustin (Chelsea) Staggs, and Greg (Ashley) Bowers. Mr. Deffley passed away on Tuesday, July 6 at his residence. He was born January 15, 1952, in Woonsocket, RI, to the late James Francis Deffley, Sr. and Mary Catherine Dolan Deffley. On August 26, 1979, he was married to Carol J. Deffley, who survives. He worked as a purchasing manager. Survivor include his wife, Carol J. Deffley of Cookeville; and daughters, Christina (Edward) A. Laquerre, and Jami (Edward) Barnsley. Memorial donations may be made to the American Red Cross by contacting the funeral home. Funeral services for Mrs. Julia Swindell, age 88 of Sparta, will be conducted 2:00pm Saturday, July 24 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Spring Hill Cemetery. Richard Haston will officiate. Mrs. Swindell passed away on Monday, July 18. She was the 7th of 13 children, the mother to five children, a homemaker, and member of the Gum Spring Baptist Church. She was owner and operator of the Swindell Grocery and Restaurant, enjoyed working at Cato and Walmart in Sparta, loved sewing projects, gardening, sports and cheering on her sons, music and especially Neil Diamond, singing, and autumn drives in the country. Surviving family members include her four sons, Mike (Judy) Sherrod, Don (Mary Beth) Swindell, David (Tami) Swindell, and Darren (Sharon) Swindell. The family will receive friends Saturday from noon until service time at Hunter Funeral Home.

Robert was a devoted employee of Woodbine Funeral Home in Nashville for 30 years following a time working at Eagle Furniture alongside his brothers Ricky and Gary. He was a collector of antiques and funeral profession antiques. Surviving family includes a host of brothers and sisters. The family will receive friends after 12:00pm Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. Fletcher passed from this life on Tuesday, July 20 at his home peacefully surrounded by his family. Kelly was a loving husband, father, and Pa. He loved life, his family, and could quickly light up a room. His sense of humor left lasting memories for those that loved him. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Carol Fletcher; and three Children, Chase (Taylor) Fletcher, Cody Fletcher, and Heather (Heath) Moore.
