Obituaries For Tuesday, January 26

David Vaughn Welch, 86 of Sparta, Tennessee passed away on Tuesday, January 26 at NHC Healthcare of Sparta. He is survived by his children, Karen Heddleston of Austin, TX, Becky Beahm of Hudson, FL, and David E. Welch of Sydney, OH. No services are planned at this time.

Mrs. Virginia Burris, age 91 of Cookeville died Monday January 25 at 1:10 am in Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Arrangements are incomplete.

Graveside service and interment for Mr. Larry Boswell, age 80 of Cookeville, will be held Wednesday, January 27th at 1:00 p.m. at Phillips Cemetery in Algood. Military honors will be provided. Mr. Boswell died Saturday, January 23rd at his residence. He was a proud Tennessean, often saying “we are so lucky to live in such a beautiful state.” He truly enjoyed helping others. Whenever someone called with a problem or needing help, he never asked why, never said no. He only asked “Where are you?” and “What do I need to bring?” He strove for perfection in everything. He always said “Do your best” and “Be the best you can.” He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Vivian Johnson Boswell; and son, Michael Boswell. His family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Mr. James W. Cantrell, 87 of Livingston, will be held on Wednesday, January 27 at 1 PM from the chapel of the Hall Funeral Home of Livingston with burial to follow in the Green Hill Cemetery in Alpine. Mr. Cantrell passed away Sunday, January 24. He was born in Rickman, Overton Co., on Monday, March 13, 1933 to the late Sid and Bronzie (Reynolds) Cantrell. James loved to garden, and loved family and friends, he was a true Christian and he will be greatly missed. He is survived by his children, Janie Stockton, and Keith Wayne Cantrell. Family will welcome friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening, 26th starting at 5 PM until 8 PM.

Funeral services for Winnie Mae Jackson, 83 of Bloomington Springs, will be at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, January 27, 2021, at Presley Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Gillum-Jackson Cemetery on 6500 Martins Creek Road, Bloomington, TN. She passed away on Saturday, January 23, 2021, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center surrounded by her family. Born Wednesday, December 22, 1937 in Bloomington Springs, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Jessie Rodgers and the late Anna Denson Rodgers. She was the loving wife of Arvil Ernest Jackson for 59 wonderful. Winnie retired early from Fleetguard-Cummins Engine to help and take care of her husband. Winnie was a member of Bloomington Springs Church of Christ where she visited the sick, giving pies and a warm smiles. She loved to garden, cook for wait on others, fishing, and working outdoors doing what ever was needed. She was the most fair person and backbone to the family. Most of all she loved the Lord and being with her family. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Wednesday, January 27, 2021, at Presley Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Mrs. Rebecca Louise Woody “Becky” Winnett, age 49 of Sparta, will be conducted 1:00pm Wednesday, January 27 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Mrs Winnett passed away at 8:05pm on Sunday, January 24 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Becky was born February 26, 1971 in Sparta to the late Jimmy Roy & Joyce Qualls Woody. She was a homemaker. She devoted her time to taking care of her family. Survivors left to cherish her memory include her husband of 30 years Tommy Winnett of Sparta; Son, Michael Winnett of Sparta; and Daughter, Amber Sims and husband Jared of McMinnville. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 4-8:00pm at Hunter Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Carroll “Tommy” Thomas Adams, 82 of Sparta, will be at 4:00 PM on Wednesday at Crest Lawn Funeral Home. He passed from this life on Sunday, January 24, 2021, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center in Cookeville. Born Tuesday, October 4, 1938 in Science Hill, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Fred Adams and the late Dorothy Roberts Adams . He was the loving husband of Mary Loggins Adams for 63 glorious years. Tommy told his wife he loved her 4 times in his life…once when they married, second and third resulted in their loving children, and the fourth time was once when she made him biscuits and gravy. He was a loving father to his second child…although his first child and he made up in the end. He enjoyed playing cards (although he cheated a lot), winning too many times. He adored his daughter Lisa and enjoyed watching and video taping every game she played (including everything she did). EVERY. THING. SHE. DID! Dad taught his least favorite child (Nick), the love and appreciation for fine weaponry and wood working. (He still feels cheated). The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Wednesday, January 27, 2021, at Crest Lawn Funeral Home, 800 West Jackson Street, Cookeville, Tennessee.

Funeral services for Kimberly “Kim” Carol Mathis, 51 of Baxter, will be Thursday, January 28 at 11 AM at the Baxter Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Thurman Mathis Family Cemetery. Due to COVID-19 please adhere to social distancing guidelines. Kim died Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at her home. She was born August 6, 1969 in Cookeville to the late Edwin Dwight Goff, Sr. and Carolyn Faye Huff Goff. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother-in-law Jerry Mathis. She was a 1987 graduate of Upperman High School in Baxter. Kim enjoyed being outdoors and spending time with family and friends. Survivors include husband of 27 years (Married January 28, 1993) Scottie Mathis of Baxter, sons Dusty Ray (Danika) Mathis, Harley (Miranda) Mathis all of Baxter, sister Justina Marie (Bryan) Potter of Cookeville. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 4 to 8 PM and after 9 AM Thursday at the funeral home. Bro. Fabron Nicholson and Bro. Leo Bilbrey will officiate.

Funeral Services for Henry George Goguen, 80 of Sparta, will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, January 28 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home with Daniel Robbins officiating. Burial will follow in Old Bon Air Cemetery. Mr. Goguen passed away on Sunday, January 24 in Gainesboro. He was born Saturday, August 31, 1940 in Toronto, Canada. Survivors Include His Brother, Larry Goguen; and His Daughter, Jennifer Mayberry (Randy). The family will welcome friends on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Graveside services for Ms. Susie Eulene Rigsby Rice, age 81 of Livonia, Michigan and formerly of Sparta, will be conducted 3:00pm Thursday, January 28 at Dobbs Cemetery. Ms. Rice passed away in the early hours of Saturday, January 23 at her residence. Susie was born September 24, 1939 in Sparta; she was a transmission assembly line worker for General Motors in Michigan for 33 years. As much as she loved working, she enjoyed retirement so that she could spend time with her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving family members include her son Ricky Allen Rigsby of Lavonia, Michigan; and daughter, Deborah Lynn Isaac and husband Luther of Ypsilanti, Michigan. The family will receive friends Thursday at Hunter Funeral Home from 1:00pm until departure for the cemetery at 2:20pm.

A memorial service for George Pappas, 84, of Cookeville, is planned for Saturday, January 30th at 11 AM at Heavenly Host Lutheran Church located at 777 South Willow Avenue in Cookeville. Pastor Andrew Smith is officiating. Mr. Pappas passed away on January 16th peacefully at home in his sleep with his wife, daughter and son-in-law by his side. In 1953, George enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, actively serving until 1956 and in the reserves until 1961. George was a professional truck driver, driving for Parco Foods among others. After “retirement” he drove a flower delivery truck which he truly enjoyed. George started chasing Rosi in 1976 and she finally gave in and married him on his birthday in 1981. He always said it was the best present he ever had! When George and Rosi moved from Michigan City to Cookeville in 2004, they felt like they had “hit the jackpot” as their new neighbors quickly became like family. George is survived by his wife and best friend Rosi, daughters Julie Ann (J.D.) Elmquist, Jill (Nick) Landers and Beth (Craig) Brown. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Kindred Hospice for their tender care of George for the last several months, especially Jenni and Nikki.

Memorial services for Charles Ray Young, age 80 of Cookeville, will be held on Saturday, January 30 at 1 pm at the Center Grove Church of Christ with Bro. Jimmy Anderson officiating. Mr. Young passed away on Friday, January 8 at his residence. He was the son of William Fred Young and Bessie Mae Flatt Young. He was a retired truck driver, member of the Teamsters Union and the Church of Christ. He enjoyed fishing, watching westerns, riding a trike, playing cards at the Senior Citizens Center and going to auctions. Survivors include his wife Ruth Jackson Young of Cookeville; son, Todd (Vivian) Young of Clovis, CA; step-children, Mona (Joe Hamilton) Taylor, Mike (Patricia) Jackson and Monica (Phillip) Robinson. Visitation will begin at 10 am until service time at 1.
