Obituaries For Wednesday, August 9

Funeral services for Mrs. Reba Joyce Cunningham Young, age 73 of the Gum Springs Mountain Community, will be conducted 11:00am Thursday, August 10, 2023 at Hensley Chapel Baptist Church with burial in Young Cemetery. She passed away Monday, August 7, 2023 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Joyce will lie in state Thursday after 10:00am at the church. Joyce was born April 26, 1950 in Sparta, to the late Lester Franklin and Betty Reba Steele Cunningham. She was a former shirt factory worker but found her passion in being a home health nurse. She was a longtime Central View Fire Department Volunteer and was active many years in their fair booth and was a first responder. She was a doctor to many of her friends, neighbors and family. In her quiet time, she loved watching westerns. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband John Franklin Young, who died November 19, 2022; sisters Sue Cunningham and June Young; brothers Wayne and Tommy Cunningham; father and mother-in-law Paul and Pauline Young. Surviving family members left to cherish her memory include her three sons Chris Young, Johnny Young and John “PeeWee” (Makayla) Young all of Sparta; Seven grandchildren: Alicia Jarrett, Heather (Shawn) Dillon, Jessica Marcum, Cole Young (Mindy), Sarah Young (Aaron), Clayton Young, Victoria Young; Five great-grandchildren: Danny Young, Noah Wilson, Arabella Perry, Brandon Marcum and Ava Smith; Sister: Wanda (Don) Youngblood; In-laws: Ricky Young, Sandy Cunningham, Kerry (Ivie) Young, Ray “Buster” (Patty) Young, Roger (Fran) Young, Bethene Cunningham, Timmy (Gail) Young, Peggy Robbins; Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. The family will receive friends from 4-8:00pm Wednesday at Hunter Funeral Home.

Funeral Services for Juana Martin Juan, age 47, of Monterey, will be conducted on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at 3:00 PM from The Chapel of Goff Funeral Home. Pastor Isaias Simon and Chaplain Scotte Staab will officiate with interment to follow in the Welch Memorial Cemetery. Juana was born on January 30, 1977, in Guatemala, to the late Baltazar Sebastian B. and Maria Juan. Juana passed away on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. Juana was a homemaker. She was a member of Iglesia Ev. Cristo la Vida Eterna Chuj. She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Martin Sebastian Marcos; 1 daughter and son-in-law, Ana Sebastian Martin and Roberto Mateo Baltazar; 3 sons and 2 daughters-in-law, Baltazar Sebastian Martin and Maria Juan Francisco, Baltazar Sebastian Martin, Sebastian Sebastian Martin and Ana Maribel Nicolas; 3 grandchildren, Johana Marisol Sebastian M., Mary Yamilet Sebastian M., Isabel Sarahi Mateo S.; sister, Alicia Sebastian Martin; brother, Julio Miguel Martin. The family will receive friends at Goff Funeral Home on Thursday, August 10, 2023, from 2:00 PM until time of services at 3:00 PM.

Funeral services for Mr. Roger Dale Lawson, age 76 of Cookeville, will be conducted 1:00pm Friday, August 11, 2023 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Thomas Springs Cemetery. He passed away Monday, August 7, 2023 at Standing Stone Care and Rehabilitation in Monterey. Roger was born August 16, 1946 in the Stringtown community to the late Fred and Lillie Ada Burgess Lawson. He was a mechanic. Roger was an active member of Pistole Baptist Church and was a former deacon at Stevens Street Baptist Church. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, in his spare time, he never missed an episode of Gunsmoke. His greatest joy was being Pa to his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by seven siblings. Surviving family members include his wife of 36 years Sheri Lawson; Two daughters: Briana Cleghorn and Gabrielle Lawson; Six grandchildren: Jaylee Kornacki, Jordan Lawson, Emma Cleghorn, Charlotte Cleghorn, Jensen Cleghorn and Waylon Cleghorn; Two sisters: Freta (Jamie) Brooks and Betty Matheney; Special niece: Noretta (Thomas) Prime; Special nephew: Thomas Chambers; Special daughter: Brittany Casey. Clint Walker will officiate. Jerry Hutchings, Torey Cleghorn, Jacob Casey and Stanton Nash will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends after 11:00am Friday. Funeral services for Linda Pearl Maxwell, 85 of Baxter, will be Friday, August 11 at 2 PM at the Baxter Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Maxwell Cemetery South. Mrs. Maxwell died Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 18, 1938 in Putnam County to the late Sanford and Ruby Morphew McBroom. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Royce, Donny, James Dale McBroom and 3 infant siblings. She attended Cookeville Free Will Baptist Church. Linda’s work history included Cookeville Shirt Factory, Pants, Boot Factory. She also worked with the Putnam County School System as a janitor at Baxter Elementary School. Linda’s interests were quilting, crocheting, working in her garden and flowers, canning and cooking. Survivors include husband of 62 years (Married April 15, 1961) Alvin Morris “Cat” Maxwell of Baxter; sisters, Wanda (David) Kilpatrick of Crossville, Judy (Richard) Payne of Baxter; brother, Morris ( Mary) McBroom of Rickman; and a host of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Friday from 12 Noon until service time at the funeral home.

Graveside services for Eldon Witcher, Jr., 70 of the Haydenburg community of Jackson County, will be held on Friday, August 11, 2023, at 2 P.M. at John L. Clark Memorial Cemetery in Jackson County, with Bro. Jimmy Anderson officiating. He was born May 4, 1953 in Jackson County, and he passed away on Monday, August 7, 2023 in Gainesboro. He was the son of the late Eldon Witcher, Sr. and Ethel Denton Witcher. He was retired from the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, and was a resident of the Haydenburg community. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his Brother-in-Law: David Billingsley. Survivors include his Son: Kalin Witcher of Whitleyville; Sister: Janie Billingsley of Goodlettsville; and Nephews: Jason (Tonya) Billingsley and Darren Billingsley. Other relatives and friends also survive. There will be no visitation or services at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Happy Haven Home by contacting the funeral home.

Funeral Services for Harvey Estle Moore, age 89, Of Cookeville, will be held at 1:00P.M. on Saturday August 12, 2023, from the Chaple of Whitson Funeral Home. Bro. Dow Allen and Bro. Tim Sharp will officiate at the service and family and friends will serve as Pallbearers. The burial will follow in the Smith Chaple Cemetery. Mr. Harvey Estle Moore was born on January 16, 1934, in Putnam County, to the late Floyd Estle and Cynthia Earline Anderson Moore. He passed away on August 7, 2023, at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Mr. Moore was affiliated with the Boma First Church of God and Post Oak Shade Freewill Baptist Church. He work at T.T.U. for 40 years and his favorite hobbies where, fishing and watching westerns on T.V and being outside watching ducks, deer and even planes as they came by. In Addition to His parents, he was preceded in death by His wife of 60 years, Kathleen Moore. His family includes 2 daughters, Janice Bean (Greg), Diane Herd (Dorman), Granddaughter, Katrina Lee, Grandson, Kyle Turner (Jessica), 2 step Grandsons, Jeff Herd (Christy) and Jason Herd, Several Great Grandchildren also survive. The family of Mr. Moore will receive friends at the funeral home, on Friday, from 5:00P.M. until 8:00P.M. and on Saturday from 10:00A.M. until the time of the services at 1:00P.M.

Celebration of Life Gathering for Christopher Maxwell, age 57, of Monterey, will be held on Sunday, August 13, 2023, from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM from The Chapel of Goff Funeral Home. Honors will be provided at 6:00 PM by the Tennessee Nurses Honor Guard and Full Military Honors by the Veterans Honor Guard. Mr. Maxwell was born on Saturday, September 11, 1965, in Muncie, Indiana, to Marie Roberts Whittaker of Monterey. Mr. Maxwell passed away on Friday, August 4, 2023, at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Mr. Maxwell was a LPN Nurse previously working with Erlanger Hospital, Standing Stone Care and Rehabilitation Center, and was a private duty nurse. He was a coach for Monterey T-Ball, youth league football and baseball. He was Baptist in faith. He was a member of The Tennessee National Guard. In addition to his mother, he is survived by, 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Zack and Nicki Maxwell of Monterey, Tyler and Sierra Maxwell of Monterey; 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Meshae and Jason Phillips of Monterey, Megan Maxwell of Monterey; 8 grandchildren, Emma Maxwell, Knox Maxwell, Easton Maxwell, Aliyah Maxwell, Grayson Phillips, Xavier Phillips, Carson Coggsdale, and Chloe Coggsdale; sister and brother-in-law, Rachel and Jeff Dixon; brother and sister-in-law, Jackie and Lisa Lee. The family will receive friends at Goff Funeral Home on Sunday, August 13, 2023, beginning at 4:00 PM.

Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Ronald Keith Ledbetter, age 66, of Bloomington Springs and formerly of Livingston, will be conducted 5 p.m., Saturday, August 19, 2023, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Ron passed from this life on Sunday, morning, July 30, 2023, from the Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born in Livingston, on December 5, 1956, to the late Earl Anderson and Betty Reagan Ledbetter. Ron was a 1976 graduate of Livingston Academy graduating earlier than his classmates. He was a member of the Life Church of Cookeville. Ron enjoyed boating on Dale Hollow Lake, also fishing and camping with his grandchildren. Ron leaves behind his son, Matthew Ledbetter and wife Lauryn of Cookeville; grandchildren, Grace Mesler and husband Trevor, Noah Ledbetter, Makenna Ledbetter, Max Ledbetter, Connor Williams, Asher Johnson, Atticus Womack and Rowan Womack; sister, Penny Milton and husband Steve of Cookeville; stepchild, Aurelia Womack of Cookeville; friends that became family, Michael and Amber Lawhorn, Tommy and Barbara Bandie, Diane Mullinax, and Victoria Carmack. Ron was preceded in death by his parents. The family will welcome friends on Saturday, August 19, 2023 from 3 pm until time of services.
