Obituaries For Tuesday, June 20

Georgia Vanderpool Way, Age 100 of Monterey passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2023, at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

The family of Rev. Eugene O’Brien Schmid Sr., 97 of Cookeville, will welcome friends on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Private graveside services with military honors will be conducted on Wednesday at Crest Lawn Cemetery. He passed away peacefully on June 17, 2023, at Overton County Nursing Home in Livingston. Born in Hazard, Kentucky, on August 31, 1925, Gene lived a long and fulfilling life of 97 years. Gene was a dedicated family man, survived by his son, Gene and daughter-in-law Vicky Schmid of Cookeville, Tennessee; sister, Lomeda Giner of Portsmouth, Ohio; granddaughter, Angela Schmid; step-granddaughter, Ann Marie Vinson; and great-grandchildren, Rowan Correll, Alex, and Luke Vinson. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Allene Franks Schmid; his parents, John Sr. and Elsie Spencer Schmid; sister, Dorothy Davis; and brother, John Schmid Jr. A proud and decorated veteran, Gene served in the United States Navy and retired as a Chief Quartermaster. His dedication to his country was matched only by his devotion to his faith. As a Baptist Minister, Gene preached and served in multiple churches in Tennessee and Kentucky for over 60 years. His faith-filled life touched countless lives and left an indelible mark on the communities he served. Throughout his life, Gene enjoyed playing golf and was known for his attention to detail. This combination of interests and traits contributed to his success in both his professional and personal life. Gene’s legacy of love, faith, and service will be cherished by his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched throughout his life.

Funeral Services for Mary Julia Huffaker Cloyd, 83 of Sparta, will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at Oak Lawn Funeral Home with Bobby Cloyd and Dwight Fuqua officiating. Burial will follow in Lower Cherry Creek Cemetery. She born February 20, 1940, passed peacefully from this life on June 17, 2023 at her home, surrounded by those that she loved the most, her family. Mary was married to Emerson Cloyd on January 10, 1958 in Pontiac, Michigan. She was a member of Findlay Church of Christ. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Emerson Cloyd, and her daughter, Marie Cartwright. Survivors include: Son- Robert “Bobby” Emerson Cloyd (Lisa); Granddaughter- Samantha Elizabeth Parker (Tristan); Grandson- Jordon Thomas Cloyd (Emily); Great-Grandchildren- Brady Klein Reid, Emmerson Jae Cloyd, Rhaleigh Shea Cloyd, and Japeth Michael Collier Richmond. Thanks to special friends and neighbors, Mary Ruth Gardner, Gary and Mary Bumbalough, and Beth Kirby. The family will welcome friends on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

Funeral services for Aaron B. Hammock better know as Bejum Hammock, 81 of Livingston, will be conducted at 11 am on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 in the Chapel of Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Shannon Hammock officiating. Burial to follow in Stacy Cemetery. He was born April 15, 1942 in Jackson County, and he passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2023 at Overton County Health and Rehab in Livingston at the age of 81. Mr. Hammock was the son of John B. Hammock and Lola C. Hammock. He was married to Veola Stover Hammock. He was a farmer. Preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Betty Irene Hammock; brothers, Ezra Lewis Hammock and Cecil Wayne Hammock. Survivors include his wife, Veola Stover Hammock of Livingston; brother, Harold E. Hammock of Cookeville and sister, Wilma G. Tinsley of Hilham. Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 from 4 – 8 pm and again on Wednesday from 9 am to 11 am. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Stacy Cemetery by contacting the funeral home.

Funeral Services for Jamison “Jason” Oliver Loftis, age 47, of Cookeville, will be held on Wednesday June 21, 2023 at 12:00P.M. from the chapel of Whitson Funeral Home. Bro. David Haun and Bro. Jerry Blair will officiate at the service. The Burial will follow in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Jamison “Jason” Oliver Loftis was born on June 4, 1976 in DeKalb County to Larry Charles Loftis and Debbie Boronda McCrary. He passed away on June 15, 2023 at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center. His family includes Grandparents: Chuck and Lois McCrary; Mother and Father: Debbie and Eddie McCrary; Brothers: Brian and Amanda Davis and James “Buddy” and Caron McCrary; Wife: Mary Loftis; Children: Kristen Davis, Courtney and Dylan Saling, Brittany and Dre Anchondo, Racheal and Kyle Barrett, Heather Loftis and John Deason, Hunter Loftis and Seadonia Wheaton; Grandchildren: Aubree Davis, Anna and Samuel Saling, Aidan and Jacob Anchondo and Olivia Barrett; And a host of aunts, uncles and nieces and nephews. He was preceded by Grandparents: Cordell and Norma Loftis, Elsie Lewis and Johnny Boronda; Father: Larry Loftis; Step-father: Pee Wee Davis; Mother and Father in-law: Anna Ruth and Vernon Egbert; Sister Tiffanie Davis; Grandchildren: Serenity Davis and Leah Anchondo; A host of aunts and uncles with honorable mention to Ricky Lewis. Visitation with the family will be, at the Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5:00P.M. until 8:00P.M. and Wednesday from 10:00A.M. until time of services at 12:00P.M.

Graveside services for Mr. Charles Douglas Howell, age 64 of Sparta, will be conducted 11:00am Thursday, June 22, 2023 at Clouse Cemetery. He passed away at 4:55pm Sunday, June 18, 2023 at St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville. Charles was born May 5, 1959 in Sparta to Joyce Clouse Howell and the late William Vernice Howell. He served 12 years in the United States Navy. Following his Naval career he had a variety of jobs until he founded his passion, Furever Pet Transport. He transported domestic animals, mostly dogs to destinations all over the country for owners that did not want to fly their four legged companions. Charles was a member of Findlay Church of Christ. In addition to his father, he is also preceded in death by his wife Margaret Patterson Holland Glover Howell who died April 9, 2021. Surviving family members include his mother: Joyce Howell; Sister: Vickie Wilmoth and husband James; Brother: Bruce Howell; Step-daughter: Debra Jean Glover; Nieces: Misty Fortner and Natasha King; Nephews: William Wilmoth, Ethan Wilmoth and Michael Howell; Twelve great-nieces and nephews also survive. There will be no public visitation prior to the service.

A memorial service for Kaleen Emlee Fahrner, 72 of Cookeville, will be at 12:00 PM on Friday, June 23, 2023 at Presley Funeral Home with the Eddy Turner officiating. She died on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at home surrounded by loved ones. Born Monday, June 5, 1950 in Bay City, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late William Ervin LeMere and the late Catherine Bowden LeMere. She was the wife of Ronald Fahrner. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Friday, June 23, 2023, at Presley Funeral Home.

Graveside Services for Mrs. Judy Lane Parrigin, age 73 of Livingston, will be conducted 11 AM Saturday, June 24th, from Flat Creek Cemetery. Bro. Jason Robertson will officiate. Mrs. Parrigin passed from this life on June 16, 2023, from the Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born in Detroit, Michigan, on November 21, 1949, to the late Daniel and Deloris Bice Sandlin. Mrs. Parrigin loved spending time with her family, who were her main joy in life. She was very devoted to Daniel and David. Judy enjoyed sewing and crafts, and she always found hard work to be very fulfilling. Mrs. Parrigin leaves behind her son Michael Parrigin and wife Amy of Livingston; grandsons Nathan Harvey, Jacob Parrigin, Jonathan Harvey, Jeremiah Parrigin, Joseph Parrigin, David Parrigin, and Daniel Parrigin all of Livingston; granddaughter Mariah Harvey Craynon and husband Brady of Morris, Minnesota; brothers Jerry Sandlin and John Seals both of Michigan; and sisters Ellie Seals and Angel Seals both of Detroit, Michigan. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Parrigin was preceded in death by her husband Michael Parrigin, daughter Shannon Harvey, and grandson Jesse Parrigin. The family will welcome friends at the graveside.

A Funeral service for Donald Paul Agee, 90 of Cookeville, will be at 3:00 PM on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at Presley Funeral Home with Chaplain Matthew Finchum officiating. He died on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at home surrounded by his family. Born Tuesday, January 3, 1933 in Detroit, Michigan, he was the son of the late Williard Agee and the late Florence Gase Agee. He was a Veteran of Korea. The family will receive friends from 2:30 PM until time of service at 3:00 PM.

Funeral services for James “Jim” McCaleb, 86 of Cookeville, will be held Saturday, June 24, 2023 at 4 PM at Colonial View Baptist Church. Interment will follow in West Cemetery. Jim passed away Monday, June 19, 2023 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. The family will receive friends Saturday 1 PM until service time at the church.
