Obituaries For Friday, May 21

James W. Test, 75, of the Stone community of Jackson County, TN, passed away on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, at Signature Health Care in Algood, TN. The family has chosen cremation, with no services at this time. He was born August 25, 1945, in Wisconsin. On June 25, 1990, he was married to Ada Louise Test, who survives. He was a hairdresser, and a member of the Gainesboro First United Methodist Church. He also served in the U.S. Army. Survivors include his wife Ada Louise Test of Gainesboro; 2 Sons; 2 Daughters.

Roger Anthony Peterson, better known as “Rabbit,” 50, of Gainesboro, passed away on May 18, 2021, at his residence. The family has chosen cremation, with no services at this time. He was born April 14, 1971, in Houston, TX, to Judith Newberry and the late Roger Anthony Lynch. On December 4, 2010, he was married to Nancy Ann Peterson, who survives. He was a factory worker. Survivors include his Wife: Nancy Ann Peterson of Gainesboro, TN; 1 Son: Harley Patterson of Cookeville, TN; 2 Daughters: Ashley Nicole Patterson of AL, and Miranda Terciera of Chattanooga. Memorial donations may be made to assist with funeral expenses by contacting the funeral home.

Graveside services for Ms. Mildred Carrie Good, age 80 of Livingston, will be conducted Saturday, 10 AM Eastern Time, from Carpenter Cemetery in Mooresburg. Bro. Larry Cook will officiate. Ms. Good passed from this life on Tuesday afternoon, May 11 from her residence. She was born in Sneedville on May 14, 1940, to the late William Harrison and Oma Brewer Lamb. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, studying Native American history, and enjoying her flowers. Mildred loved her friends, loved her life, and never met a stranger. Ms. Good leaves behind her sons Anthony Good of Glasgow, KY and Willie Douglas Peruzzi of Gainesboro; daughter Melissa Linder and husband Kenneth of Livingston. The family will welcome friends at the graveside.

Funeral Services for Christian Betancourt Taboada will be held on Saturday May 22, 2021 at 11:00am from the chapel of Whitson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the odd Fellow Cemetery in Baxter TN. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Thursday May 20, 2021 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm with a special service at 7:00pm.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lynda Elise Wilson Null, age 69 of Sparta, will be conducted 11:00am Saturday, May 22, 2021 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Spring Hill Cemetery. She passed away Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at her residence. Lynda was born October 16, 1951 in Sparta, Tennessee to the late James Edward Wilson & Maude Elsie England Mott. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Bobby Null, and son James Christopher Clark. Lynda attended White County High School and moved to Charlotte, North Carolina in 1969. Lynda lived there until 1981. She worked in food service for the Mecklenberg County School System. After returning to Sparta, she worked for the White County School System until her physical health began declining. Lynda served many children at East Sparta Elementary until its closure and then on to Woodland Park Elementary. The family will receive friends after 9:00am Saturday at Hunter Funeral Home. Jacob Judd will officiate.

Graveside services for Marissa Rae Flatt, 43, of Birmingham, AL, will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2021, at 12 Noon at the Isaac Flatt Cemetery in Jackson County. She passed away on Thursday, April 29, 2021. She was born December 28, 1977, in Nashville, TN, to Larry Flatt and RaeJean Flatt. There will be no visitation or services at the funeral home.

Funeral services for Phylliss Artha Brogdon, 81 of Cookeville, will be Saturday, May 22 at 12:30 PM at Dyer Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Cookeville City Cemetery. Bro. Johnny Fox will officiate. The family will receive friends Friday 3 to 6 PM and Saturday from 11:30 AM until service time at the funeral home. Mrs. Brogdon died Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at her home. She was born August 25, 1939 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Philip Arthur and Ruth Marie Walls Pickens. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years Billy Joe Howard Brogdon on August 16, 2020 and a brother, Philip Pickens, Jr. She was a retired receptionist at Dr. Sam Barnes office. Phylliss enjoyed horseback riding, hunting, fishing and taking care of her husband. She was a member of Holladay Church of Christ. Survivors include a brother George Edward Pickens of Flagstaff, AZ.

Funeral services for Theodore Bruce “Big Daddy” Evans, age 72 of Sparta, will be conducted 1:00pm Saturday at the Oakwood Street Church of Christ. James Burden will officiate. In honor of Big Daddy’s wishes, he will be cremated following his funeral and his ashes will be spread at locations that were special to him. He passed away on Tuesday May 18, 2021 at NHC of Sparta. The family will receive friends from 11:00am until service time at the church.

Funeral services for William McKinley Hamilton, 54 of Bloomington Springs, will be held on Saturday, May 22 at 2 P.M. at Anderson Upper Cumberland Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Burris Cemetery in Jackson County. Mr. Hamilton passed away on Wednesday, May 19 at his residence. He was born July 30, 1966, in Cookeville to the late George Hamilton and Molene Stafford Hamilton. He was an automotive mechanic, and attended the Church of Christ. Survivors include fiancée, Sarah Sullivan of Bloomington Springs; and daughter, Shelby Hamilton of Cookeville. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Diabetes Association by contacting the funeral home. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10 A.M. until time of services.

Funeral Services for James R. Hallums, 77 of Sparta, will be Sunday, May 23 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home at 2 PM with Bro. Tracy Curtis and Dwight Henry officiating, burial to follow at Skurlock Cemetery. Mr. Hallums passed away Wednesday, May 19 in Pleasant Hill after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease and dementia. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on January 6, 1944 where he lived until 1973 when he and his childhood sweetheart, Levonda moved to Doyle, TN. James was a journeyman welder who worked for TN Metal Fabrication in Campaign, TN prior to becoming disabled. He taught many young men the art of welding. His greatest accomplishment in life was his love for God. He was a devoted Christian. His family has no doubt that he is in the presence of God and rejoicing with his loved ones. He and Levonda married June 22, 1965 and had three children, Theresa (Thomas) Price, James Ronald Hallums JR., and Heidi (Ronald) Roberts. In Lieu of flowers, the family ask that contributions be made in James’s name to Vanderbilt Children Hospital, who saved the life of his great-grandson, Collin. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 12- time of service at Oak Lawn Funeral Home.

A funeral mass for Pat Swearengin, 65 of Sparta, will be held Wednesday, May 26, at 10:00 am, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church (421 N. Washington Ave., Cookeville, TN) followed by a Christian burial at Dodson Branch Cemetery. Mr. Swearengin passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, at UT Medical Center, on May 12 after a brief battle with cancer. Pat was born and raised in Jackson County where he graduated from Jackson County High School. He graduated from Tennessee Tech with a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture. He put his degree to work teaching Agriculture at Cookeville High School for several years. He changed careers and worked as a quality control supervisor in the manufacturing industry before he transitioned into his most rewarding and meaningful role – stay-at-home dad. His blood ran orange for the University of Tennessee where he attended and watched numerous sporting events. He especially loved cheering on the Lady Vols basketball and softball teams. His proudest moment was the day that his daughter, Mary Catherine, graduated from UT. He was looking forward to someday retiring to Knoxville where he could be close to his daughter and son-in-law and his beloved UT. He is survived by his wife of almost 30 years, Sandy Swearengin; and his daughter, Mary Catherine Wright and husband, Corey, of Knoxville. In lieu of flowers, our family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society (cancer.org), the Pat Summitt Foundation (patsummitt.org), or the Tennessee Fund (checks payable and mailed to the Tennessee Fund, 1551 Lake Loudoun Blvd., Knoxville, TN 37996; memo line: UT Softball team in honor of Pat Swearengin). Visitation will be held at Crest Lawn Funeral Home Tuesday, May 25, from 4:00-7:30 pm followed by a vigil at 7:30.

A Celebration of Life for John (JB) William Dyer, age 63 of Cookeville, will be held Wednesday May 26th from 5-8 p.m. at his home located on 955 E. Hudgens Street, Cookeville. Mr. Dyer passed away Tuesday May 18 at his home. While in high school, he played baseball and golf. He graduated from Putnam County Senior High School in 1975 and attended Martin Methodist University on athletic scholarship. John worked as the Director of the Putnam County Parks and Recreation, where he retired after 32 years of service. He is survived by a daughter, Courtney (Brian) Brauss of Mount Juliet; and a son, Josh (Brittany) Dyer of Murfreesboro. The event will be come and go, as parking will be limited.
