Frances Lucille Teeples, 77 of Sparta, passed away on Friday, January 25, 2019, at NHC Healthcare of Sparta. She was born Sunday, August 31, 1941 in Sparta, she was the daughter of the late William Cole and the late Margaret Roberts. She was the wife of Bobby Teeples. The family has chosen cremation. No services are scheduled at this time.

Jim Cook, Age 60, Of, Monterey, Tennessee, Passed Away On Wednesday, January 23, 2019, At The Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Mr. Cook Was Born On May 11, 1958, In Wilder, Tennessee, To The Late David Thomas Cook And Wilma Jean Tays Cook Sells. Mr. Cook Was A Drywaller. He Is Survived By His Wife, Dottie Lusk Cook Of Monterey, TN; Daughter, Heather Johnson Of VA; Son And Daughter-In-Law, Jonathon And Heather Penticuff Of Greenbrier, TN; 4 Grandchildren, D’Kiyla, D’Kayla, Antonio, Elijah; 3 Sisters And Brothers-In-Law, Jan And Darrell Melton Of Monterey, TN, Dorothy And Randy Newman Of Sevierville, TN, Donna And Randy Hill Of Crawford, TN; 4 Brothers And A Sister-In-Law, Bill Cook Of Monterey, TN, David And Bobbie Cook Of Crawford, TN, Steve Sells Of The Cravenstown Community, Scottie Sells Of The Cravenstown Community. In Addition To His Parents, He Was Preceded In Death By His Brother, Ricky D. Cook; Niece, Shannon Cook; And Nephew, Braxton Bowman. His Wishes Of Cremation Are Being Honored With Memorial Services To Be Announced In A Few Weeks.

Funeral services for Ila R. Emery, age 87 of Cookeville will be held Saturday, January 26, 2019, beginning at 11:00 AM from the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Gillock and Bro. Sterl Paramore officiating. Interment will follow at Clouse Seminary Cemetery in Board Valley, TN. Mrs. Emery passed from this life Thursday, January 24, 2019, at NHC Healthcare of Cookeville. She was born Saturday, May 23, 1931 in Sparta, Tennessee to the late Hollis and Beulah (Clouse) Henry. Ila was a loving Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother. She attended Knights Chapel Freewill Baptist Church and Faith Fellowship Church. She was a very giving person, always helping others, and was known by many as “Mother”.

Celebration of Life for Patsy A. Janes, 77, of Cookeville, will be held Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 1:00 pm at New Beginning Assembly of God with Bro. Myron Greer officiating. Patsy passed from this life on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at her home. Visitation with the family will be held Saturday, January 26, 2019 from 11:00 am until time of service at New Beginning Assembly of God.

Memorial services for John Richard Moore, age 62, of Cookeville will be held Saturday, January 26th, 2019 at 1:00 pm in the chapel of Presley Funeral Home with Chaplain Dwight Henry officiating. There will be no public visitation. Richard passed away Friday, January 18, 2019 at his home in Cookeville, Tennessee. Richard was born Sunday, March 18, 1956 in Bradenton, Florida to Mary Jacqueline Ernest Moore and the late John Allen Moore Jr.

Funeral services for Gertis D. “Coach Bird” Carr, Jr. age 89 of Cookeville, Tennessee will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 2:00PM from the Chapel of Whitson Funeral Home with Bro. Harold Walker, Bro. Mickey Bilyeu, and Bro. Scott McKinney officiating. Burial will follow at Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Friday 5:00-7:00PM and Saturday 12Noon till time of the service at 2:00PM. He passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at his residence. Gertis D. “Coach Bird” Carr Jr. was born on August 22, 1929 in Putnam County, TN to the late Gertis D. Carr, Sr. and Una Clara Grimes Carr. He was retired from the P.C. School System after 38 years of service as a teacher, coach, and administrator. He graduated from Cookeville High School where he played football under Coach Eddie Watson then stayed and assisted Coach Watson until he graduated from TTU in 1954 with the exception of time in the U.S. Air Force. He taught and assisted coaching at Dickson High School, then Monterey, and to Cookeville High School to assist in coaching football, basketball, and golf. He then became Assistant Principal until retirement in 1992.

A memorial service for Marie Ann Brock Gambrell, age 72 of Sparta, will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2019, at 2:00 PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Sparta. Marie passed away on January 15, 2019, at her home in Sparta at the age of 72 after a brief illness. Marie was born in Huntsville, Alabama to Perry Earl Brock and Beulah Mae Doney Brock on February 26, 1946. She is preceded in death by her parents, and beloved husband, James, of almost 38 years. Marie was a homemaker who also worked with James, who was a self-employed mechanic. Marie is survived by her two devoted daughters and sons-in-law, Darlene and Jerry O’Connor of Sparta, and Jamie and Jeremy Harmon of Knoxville. Marie was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in October 2009 and loved attending the Kingdom Hall. She was faithful until the end and enjoyed sharing her faith with others. She always enjoyed the hugs from the brothers and sisters and holding all the babies. Marie’s favorite things were a little rooster named Penny, gardening, growing flowers, her squirrels and birds, couponing, and cooking. A visitation with family begins at 1:00 PM at the Kingdom Hall. The memorial service will begin at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the local Kingdom Hall.

A Memorial Service for Kathy Lynn Taylor, 56 of Sparta, will be held at 3pm on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home. Kathy passed away on Sunday, January 20, 2019, at her home. She was born Tuesday, July 31, 1962 in Cincinnati, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Ellis Adams and the late Johnnie Shoupe. Survivors include: Son- Josh Taylor (C.K) of Sparta; Sister- Sandra Brown of Sparta; Brother- Randel “Bo” Adams (Lori) of Sparta; Sister- Karen Jackson (Jeff) of Sparta; Brother-in-Law- Gary Slatten of Sparta; Several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Libby Slatten, brother-in-law, Roger Brown, and a nephew, Darryl “Toad” Brown. The family will welcome friends from 2pm until time of the service at the funeral home.

Memorial service for James Shannon Johnson, age 46, of Bloomington Springs will be held Saturday, January 26th, 2019 at 7:00 pm in the chapel of Presley Funeral Home. Mr. Johnson passed away Friday, January 18, 2019 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center in Cookeville. He was born Sunday, November 26, 1972 in Cookeville to the late Troy Johnson and Dimple Blaylock Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Hunter Cade ; brothers, Timothy Robertson and Mike Robertson. Shannon is survived by his daughter, Chelsea Robinson and husband Daniel; two grandsons, Landyn and Gracyn; a granddaughter, Oaklyn; brothers, Bill ( Cindy) Johnson, Shane (Christy) Johnson, Adam Johnson and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 26, 2019, 3:30 PM – 7:00 PM at Presley Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Presley Funeral Home to assist with funeral expenses.

A funeral service for James W Blackwell, 79 of Cookeville, will be at 3:00 PM on Sunday, January 27, 2019 at Crest Lawn Funeral Home. James passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2019. Born Saturday, July 22, 1939 in Peoria, Illinois, he was the son of the late Robert Blackwell and the late Doris Burge Blackwell. James was proud of his service to his country in the Army. He was a loving husband, father, brother, and friend. James was always smiling and happy and was a great jokester especially on his sister. He was the husband of Rosalee Smith Blackwell whom how married on May 8, 1964, she was the love of his life and will never be forgotten. He is also survived by: 2 Daughters: Lori Blackwell Eads (Robert), Brenda Blackwell Downs (Larry); 1 Son: Randy Blackwell; 1 Sister: Sally Schmitt (Carl). He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 11 great- grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents one daughter Sharon Blackwell Jimison and one brother Donald R. Blackwell. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Sunday, January 27, 2019 at Crest Lawn Funeral Home.

Funeral services for John F. Hancock, age 75, of Baxter will be held Monday, January 28, 2019 at 1:00 pm at Smellage Cemetery with Fabron Nicholson officiating. Mr. Hancock passed away Thursday, January 24, 2019 at his home in Baxter. He was born Sunday, September 5, 1943 in Cookeville to the late Amos B Hancock and Bessie Rittenberry Hancock. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ollie Hancock; brothers, Willard Hancock, Lillard Hancock, and Jessie Manul; and a sister, Bobby Knight. John is survived by three sisters, Helen Jackson, Mildred Hall and Joyce Gambell and two brothers, Arthur Hancock and Harvey Hancock. Visitation will be Monday 12:30 at the cemetery till time of the service.
