Obituaries For Friday, August 23

Carlon (Wod) Kinnaird, 79, of Jackson County, passed from this life on August 22, 2019, while at Signature Health Care in Algood. Mr. Kinnaird was born in Jackson County to the late Thurman and Lavada Judd Kinnaird. He served during the Vietnam War, where he was an ambulance driver at the Martin Army Hospital in Fort Benning, GA. Mr. Kinnaird retired from General Motors then returned home where he worked for many years as a security guard at the Livingston Regional Hospital. He was a member of the Zion Church of Christ. Mr. Kinnaird was preceded in death by his parents in addition to two brothers: Dawson and Charles; and three sisters: Juanita Palk, Frances Ramsey, and Peggy Sparks. He is survived by an uncle: James Kinnaird of Cookeville; sisters: Anna Ruth Bean of Dayton, OH, and Margaret (Ralph) Chaffin and Deanie (Dale) Bowman, all of Cookeville; brothers: Ralph (Maureen) Kinnaird of Flowood, MS, and David (Patsy) Kinnaird; sister-in-law: Helen Kinnaird; and brother-in-law: Lester Sparks all of Cookeville, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mr. Kinnaird chose cremation with no services.

Service for Truman Douglas Clouse, age 86 of White County, will begin at 9:00AM Saturday, August 24, 2019 at Thurman Funeral Home. Internment Smith’s Chapel Cemetery. Truman passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2019. Truman was born in Board Valley in White County on December 11, 1932 to Claude Lee Clouse and Eula Levonia Henry Clouse. Truman was a high school graduate who worked various tool and die jobs, but his love was his work with the back hoes, dozers, and dump trucks. Even working with his backhoe as recently as June of 2019. He served in the US Army as a screaming eagle during the Korean conflict. Truman’s love of his life was his wife of 61 years who he lost in December of 2018. Together they built a wonderful life, raised five children and many beloved animals. Truman never was heard to say a negative word about anyone. He was a man’s man, but a loving, kind, gentle soul. His loss is unbearable for those who loved him. His children and sister love him more than life and when they told him they loved him he always said, “ I LOVE YOU MORE.” He was the best daddy a child could ever have. Truman is survived by his children, Patricia (Mike) Crawford, Connie Sue Swann (Mike), David Dean (Lori) Clouse, Douglas Keith Clouse, and Gary Glen Clouse; Sister, Netta Mulligan; Sister in-laws, Reba Jean Anderson, Lois Faye Anderson; brother in-law, James (Jimmy)(Diane) Anderson; 15 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Truman Clouse is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Sue Clouse; His parents, Claude and Eula Henry Clouse; brother, Charles Clouse; sisters, Retha Hunter, and Claudine Cassel; and great-great grandchild, Sawyer David Simmons. Family will accept visitors on Friday, August 23, 2019 in the chapel of Thurman Funeral home from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

A Funeral Service for John Harvey Roberts Sr. 87, of Sparta, will be held on Saturday August 24, 2019 at 10:00 am at Oak Lawn Funeral Home with burial to follow at Oak Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Roberts passed away August 19,2019. He passed peacefully at home surrounded by his children. Mr. Roberts was born August 22, 1931, in Sparta to the late Homer Whitley Roberts and Bessie Mary Jane Baker Roberts. He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 46 years, Nelda Jean Hickey Roberts; Granddaughter, Danielle Nicole Ransom; Son, Michael Allen Roberts; Brothers, Homer Whitley Jr., Charles Thomas, Wilfred Terry, Herman Clay, Clarence Vaughn, Larry Dean, and Joseph Michael; Sisters, Arrie Mae Jernigan, Hazel Venola Roberts and Wanda Louise McGhee. Survivors include one son John Harvey Roberts Jr. and Wife Ava of Nashville; two daughters Sheryl Ann Ransom and husband Danny of Cookeville, Sharon England of Sparta; Brothers, Homer Ray Roberts and wife Cathie, Fred Rascoe Roberts and wife Bonnie, James Mulcay Roberts and Willard Oliver Roberts; Sisters, Wilma Jeanne Kirby, Opal Virginia Williams, Mary Frances Whitley and husband Harlan; Grandson Daniel Ryan Ransom of Cookeville; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Mr. Roberts was a much beloved educator who influenced the careers of many students during his 34 plus years of teaching. He began his teaching career at Copper Basin High School (Copperhill) in 1958. He went to Troy State College (Troy, Ala) in 1962 to be a principal and teacher. He began teaching 8th grade math at White County Junior High in the fall of 1972 moving to White County High School in the fall of 1978 where he taught Chemistry, Physics and Advance Mathematics until his retirement in 1992. Mr. Roberts attended West Sparta Church of Christ. He was a faithful Christian who loved to send biblical “challenges” to preacher and friend, Derrick Coble and his dear Christian friend Jeff Turner. He served his country in the U.S. Army and was a medic during the Korean War. The family will receive friends Friday August 23, 2019 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm at the funeral home.

Funeral services for Russell M. Phy, age 85, of Cookeville will be held Saturday, August 24, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Paran Church with Pastors Danny Whitson and Douglas Hawkins officiating. Interment will follow in Paran Cemetery. Mr. Phy passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at his home in Cookeville following an extended illness. He was born Sunday, July 29, 1934 in Cookeville to the late Erchel Marion Phy and Nellie Mae Gilliam Phy. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 23, 2019, 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Presley Funeral Home and Saturday, August 24, 2019, 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM at Paran Church prior to service.

Funeral Services for Mr. Gene B. Boles, age 85 of Livingston, will be conducted at 2 PM, Saturday, August 24, 2019, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Bro. Nick Turner will officiate. Burial will be in Hilham Cemetery with military honors provided at graveside by the Overton County Veterans Honor Guard.. The family will welcome friends on Friday evening from 5 until 9 PM at Speck Funeral Home. Gene passed from this life on Wednesday, August 21st, from the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Murfreesboro. He was born in Overton County on November 12, 1933, to the late George Averitt and Ethel Grace Boles. Gene loved to be outdoors, and he spent time hunting, fishing, camping, and working on cars.

Funeral Services for Mr. Glenard Wade Hogue, age 91, of Livingston will be conducted 1 PM, Sunday, August 25, 2019, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Bro. Steven Barlow and Bro. Gary Taylor will officiate. Burial will be in Overton County Memorial Gardens. Glenard passed from this life on Wednesday morning, August 21, 2019 from the Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born in Overton County on November 7, 1927, to the late Wade and Ammer Belle Martin Hogue. Glenard loved to visit with people, tell jokes, and spending time with his family. He was an Atlanta Braves fan who enjoyed gong to church, eating watermelons, and breaking beans with his niece Patricia Stephens. Mr. Hogue leaves behind his daughter Marsha Deck and husband Jim of Livingston; grandchildren Marcy Dickerson, Josh Deck, and Rachel Deck; great grandchildren Alyssa Dickerson, Brady Dickerson, Emma Deck, Drew Deck, Tyson Deck, and Nevaeh Skelton; step-children Mark Whitaker, Brian Whitaker, Gary Allred, and Carolyn Curtis; several step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hogue was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children Betty Jo Hogue; second wife Wilma Hogue; third wife Ann Hogue; son Mark Hogue; brothers Gerald Hogue, Delbert Hogue, Ray Hogue, and Vurnley Hogue; and sisters Lorraine Nolen and Odell Neely. The family will welcome friends on Saturday evening from 5 until 8 PM at Speck Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Wilma Jean Anderson, 78, of Gainesboro, will be held at 3 P.M. on Sunday, August 25, 2019, at Anderson – Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro. Burial will follow in the Stacy Cemetery in the Old Antioch community of Jackson County, TN. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 4 P.M. – 8 P.M., and Sunday from 2 P.M. until time of services. She passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2019, in Spring Hill, TN. She was born April 24, 1941, in Gainesboro, TN, to the late Hubert Hammock and Ardie Hammock. On January 20, 1961, she was married to the late James Howard Anderson. She was a homemaker, and attended the Freewill Holiness Church.

Graveside services and interment with military honors services for Harry Leroy Ashmore, age 97, of Cookeville, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday August 27 at Camp Butler Cemetery in Springfield, IL. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 12 noon at Bass Patton Funeral Home in Hillsboro, IL. Mr. Ashmore passed away Thursday August 22, 2019 at in Algood, TN at Signature Health Care of Putnam County.
