Obituaries For Friday, April 12

Raymond “Admiral Ray” Arthur Walter, 91 of Sparta, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2019, at Life Care Center of Sparta. Ray was born Sunday, May 22, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of the late William Walter and the late Laura (Kiegley) Walter. Ray is survived by: 4 Children: Tom and Marcia Walter, Linda (Walter) and Gary Broling, Jerrold and Kathy Walter, and Kathy (Walter) Schloz; 5 Grandchildren: Alisa Walter Cardenas, Stephanie Walter Phipps, John Walter, Christine Broling Cahoe and Andy Schloz. In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by: Wife, Arlene Louise (Dommick) Walter; Brother, Verlon Walter. Ray chose cremation, the family followed his wishes, and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

Funeral services for Donald Lee Goff, age 64, of the Austin Bottom Community, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday April 13 at Dyer Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Goff Cemetery. Donald passed away suddenly Tuesday April 9, 2019 at his home. The family will receive friends Friday from 5 – 8 p.m. and again Saturday from 9 a.m. until service time.

Funeral services for Glen Irvin Carter, age 84 of Walling, will be conducted 1:00pm Saturday, April 13, 2019 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will follow in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Glen passed away Tuesday evening, April 9, 2019 at the Raintree Manor in McMinnville. Glen was born July 23, 1934 in Walling to the late Charles & Lola Fisher Carter. He was a retired Electrician and Plumber. Glen served his country as a sergeant in the United States Army. He loved working outdoors and University of Tennessee Football. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by daughter Marilyn Carter Morrison; sisters Thelma Ann Carter and Zetella “Zelna” Carter; brothers Vaughn, Horace, Donald, Gene and Ralph Carter. Survivors include his wife of 49 years Louise Felton Carter of Walling; Son: Michael Joe Carter of Sparta; Daughter: Tammy Carter Rutherford (Greg Clouse) of Walling; Son: Glen “Skip” McCarthy of Mississippi; Son: Kevin McCarthy; Grandchildren: Corgan Lee Carter, Cameron Carter, Caleb Carter, Brandon Williams, Joel Wooten, Aaron Wooten, Adam Wooten, Nick McCarthy, Kevin McCarthy and Jacob McCarthy; Sisters: Leta Joyce Wigington of Mt. Juliet, Betty Hughes of Franklin, Melba Eads and Viola Biswick both of Scottsboro, Indiana; Several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive. The family will receive friends Friday from 5-8:00pm at Hunter Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Tim Singleton Will Officiate With Interment To Follow In The Bohannon Cemetery. Mrs. McCormick Was Born On June 26, 1929, In Monterey, Tennessee, To The Late Oba Dallas And Martha Elizabeth Holloway Shirley. Mrs. McCormick Passed Away On Wednesday, April 10, 2019, At The Standing Stone Care And Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. McCormick Was A Homemaker. She Was A Member Of Monterey Church Of Christ. She Is Survived By Her Daughter And Son-In-Law, Nancy And Ray Wilson Of Monterey, TN; Son-In-Law, David Jernigan Of Monterey, TN; 3 Grandchildren, Robert (And Sarah) Wilson Of Cookeville, TN, Rachel (And Elliott) Richardson Of Kingston, TN, Brittany (And Russell) Neely Of Mt. Juliet, TN; And 2 Great Grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann And Abigail. In Addition To Her Parents, She Was Preceded In Death By Her Husband, John D. McCormick; Daughter, Jane Ann Jernigan; Sister, Lucille McCormick; And Brothers, Arlon, Douglas, Willie, Doyle, And Dallas Jr. Shirley; And An Infant Brother. Graveside services for Doris June Ray, 86 of Cookeville, will be held Sunday, April 14.2019 beginning at 1:00 pm at Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Doris passed from this life Thursday, April 11, 2019, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center in Cookeville. She was born Monday, June 6, 1932 in Paris , Arkansas. She was the daughter of the late Louis Raymond and Geneva (Brandon) McGarvey. Doris was a loving Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Great Great Grandmother. Her hobbies were shopping, music, concerts, travel, and Bingo, She loved spending time with her Grandchildren. She is survived by: 2 Daughters: Barbara Wicker of Cookeville, Cathy Barber of Cookeville; 1 Son: Jack H. Ray of Cookeville; 10 Grandchildren: Barbie, Annette, Alan, Shannon, Jamie, Shirley, Doris Connie, Shane, and Andrea; 26 Great Grandchildren; 17 Great Great Grandchildren; 1 Sister: Sue Wicks of Portland. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her Husband: Jackson Ray, 1 Sister: Derlene McCRay, 2 Brothers: Lewis McGarvey, and Jackie Lynn McGarvey.

A memorial service for Mr. Jackie Dale Robinson, age 70 of Sparta, will be held Sunday, April 14th at 2pm at Fairview Church of Christ in Cookeville. Bro. Teston Gilpatrick will officiate. Jackie passed away Thursday, April 11th at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born April 21, 1948 in Putnam County. He served as a member of the United States Army and was employed as a truck driver. In addition to his mother, Rose Martin Robinson and step father, Thurman Robinson, he was preceded in death by brother, Ricky Robinson and sister, Patty Tollett. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara Gail Robinson; sons, Roger (Melissa) Robinson of Sparta and Ronnie (Stephanie) Robinson of Memphis; daughter, Michelle (Brenton) Cooper of Sparta; grandchildren, Austin (Bethany) Robinson, Jordan Carson, Sydney Robinson and Jackson Carson; and by sister, Peggy (Guy) Graham of Sparta.

Funeral services for Pauline Carter Johnson, 89, will held at 2:30pm on Sunday, April 14 at Presley Funeral Home. Brother Steve Thornton will officiate the services. Interment will be in the Browns Mill Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 4-7 pm on Saturday, April 13 and from 1-2:30 pm on Sunday. Mrs. Johnson passed away at her home on Wednesday, April 10. She was born July 30, 1929 to the late Willis and Ethel McKinley Carter. She was retired from TN Department of Corrections and Cherry Creek Antiques which she founded with her husband. Mrs. Johnson loved the Lord and was a member of Caney Fork Baptist Church for 69 years. She was an accomplished gardener who loved to share her flowers with her many beloved friends. Memorial donations may be made to the Caney Fork Baptist Church Building Fund, 2404 Hwy 70 East, Cookeville, TN 38506.

Celebration of Life Services for Mr. Robert Lee Gore, age 61, of Rickman will be conducted 4:30 p.m., Sunday, April 14, 2019 from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Robert passed from this life on November 3, 2018 in the comfort of his home. He was born April 15, 1957 in Noblesville, IN to the late Robert M. & Phyllis A Meredith Gore. Robert leaves his loving wife, Ellen Bilbrey Gore of Rickman; daughter, Sarah Crouch of Rickman; grandchildren, Luke, and Scarlett Crouch; brothers, Timmy Gore, and Paul Gore both of Anderson, IN; sister, Shelly Vinson of Cookeville. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his son, Robert L. Gore II; granddaughter, Joslin Crouch; and brothers, Roy Meredith, and David Gore. The family will welcome friends on Sunday from 2 p.m. until time of services.

Funeral services for Charles Anderson age 79 of Baxter, will be Monday, April 15 at 2 PM at New Home Baptist Church with Bro. Charlie Wills officiating. Interment will follow at New Home Baptist Church Cemetery in the Boma Community of Putnam County. Mr. Anderson passed away Friday, April 12, 2019 at NHC of Cookeville. He was born in Putnam County to late Thomas Borden Anderson and Margaret Jernigan Anderson. He was an Air Force veteran serving from 1957 to 1962. Survivors include wife Mildred Arnell Phelps Anderson of Baxter, children: Bill (Jan) Anderson of Milan, TN, Eddie (Pam) Anderson of Melissa, TX and Suzanne Anderson (Mike) Robichaud of Cookeville, 7 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the church Monday from 10 AM until service time. Memorial contributions may be made to New Home Baptist Church Mission Fund in memory of Charles Anderson.

Funeral Services for Earl LaVaughn Phifer, 88 of Sparta, will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home with Emory Thompson officiating and Military Honors provided by the Veteran’s Honor Guard. Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Earl passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2019, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born Friday, October 17, 1930 in Ulysses, Kansas. He was the son of the late Mark Phifer and the late Laura Howard Phifer. He was very involved in the community. He sponsored many youth sports teams as well as coached. He was a business owner. He owned Jim and Earl’s Sporting Goods for many years. In 1986, Earl and his son, Kurt formed Marine Fabrication Inc. until Earl retired in 1993. Earl served in the Army during the Korean War where he recieved the Bronze Star Award. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Phifer. Survivors include: Son- Kurt Phifer (Ginger) of Sparta; Granddaughter- Ashleigh Phifer of Nashville; Grandson- Brett Phifer of Sparta; Brothers- Kenn Phifer (Yvonne) of Livonia, MI and Bill Phifer (Billie) of Colorado Springs, CO. Many other family members, friends, and neighbors also survive. The family will welcome friends on Tuesday from 11am until time of the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the White County Rescue Squad and the Veteran’s Honor Guard. Donations can be made at Oak Lawn Funeral Home.
