Newman’s Own Foundation has awarded a $50,000 challenge grant to WCTE.
WCTE Director of Development and Marketing Avery Hutchins said the grant funding was awarded based on their service within public media and small, rural communities.
“The money is going to go to help sustain the work that we’re doing on a local level as far as local productions and telling the stories here in the Upper Cumberland,” Hutchins said. “It will also go towards helping some of the outreach and engagement we do in the communities.”
Hutchins said the purpose of a challenge grant is for others in the community to see the efforts of Newman’s Own Foundation so that they too can back the same causes.
“It’s hopes that people in the community will see that the Newman’s Own Foundation has stepped up and supported WCTE in this way,” Hutchins said, “and to also encourage others in the community that want to continue that support to also put money towards that grant.”
Hutchins said the station appreciates the recognition from Newman’s Own and looks to continue providing the public with quality content.
“It’s an honor for WCTE to be recognized in this fashion,” Hutchins said. “It gives us a stronger foundation to continue the work that we’re doing and broaden our reach here in the Upper Cumberland. It just shows the support on a national level for WCTE and the work that we’re doing here.”
Newman’s Own Foundation has made a commitment to public broadcasting stations around the country.
