Livingston officials are working to repair a water line break early Friday morning that has shut off water to a major portion of the community.
Mayor Curtis Hayes said a major six-inch line broke early this morning on the Highway 111 Bypass, near Farm Bureau. Crews hope to have the line repaired in the next hour, as of 7:30am.
“Unfortunately, customers may experience low water pressure and in some areas of our utility district no water at all,” Hayes said.
Water customers in Monroe and Alpine only are under a Boil Water Advisory. Hayes said this is a precautionary measure after water levels in the tanks that serve those areas reached low levels.
“They just need to boil their water before they consume it,” Hayes said. “We don’t think by any shape, form or fashion that there’s any contamination in the water. We’ve just had a very very bad water leak and it has taken our tanks down to a very very low level. So due to TDEC regulations in those areas where that tank is we are asking customers to boil their water.”
Once the leak is repaired and the tanks replenished, Hayes said the city will send samples to TDEC for testing. The Boil Water Advisory for Monroe and Alpine is in effect until further notice.
Overton County Schools closed Friday morning. Hayes said businesses across the community can open as normal Friday.
