The Warren County School System plans to use $124,000 to improve music programs across the district.
Director of Schools Bobby Cox the school system received the funding from the CMA Foundation’s State of the Arts Music Grant.
“We really appreciate the opportunity to apply for the grant and the CMA Foundation for funding that,” Cox said. “We feel like we had a great application. We worked really hard on it and we just appreciate CMA for not only investing in Warren County students but students across the state as well.”
Cox said the grant will purchase new equipment, instruments, curriculum method books and instructional materials.
“Music and art education is really something that I feel is very important, but unfortunately, funding is very limited for that,” Cox said. “That’s really why we wanted to try to apply for this grant because it would give us a much-needed boost with dedicated funding to help those programs.”
The money will also be used for supplemental resource subscriptions, instructional technology, music literature and library, teacher professional development mini-grants, and in-district professional development.
Cost said the entire district will benefit from the funding, but the high school will be the main focus.
“We’re going to try to balance it,” Cox said. “A lot of the funding will be used at the high school because that’s where our greatest population is at, but we are going to try to spread that throughout the district as well.”
Warren County was one of eight school districts to receive the grant this year. The grant was made possible by a $1 million investment from the CMA Foundation.
