The Warren County Utility District Board wants to learn more about the Spencer water system before making a decision on the city’s request.
Board President Glenn Mitchell said city officials shared a letter of request to the board proposing a contract for the utility district to operate the water treatment plant.
“Certainly want to know what the water quality problems are and what that would entail to get them to have good potable water to drink,” Mitchell said. “That is the number one issue.”
Mitchell said the board will have to consider the water system’s depreciation cost and what it would take to bring the operation back to a profit margin. All while not putting current customers in jeopardy, Mitchell said.
Mitchell said the discussion is preliminary at this time. Mitchell said officials from the State Comptroller’s Office are set to meet with the board to further discuss options.
