Voter Registration For March Election Ends Monday

Monday is the final day to register to vote in the March Presidential and County Primary elections.

Putnam County Administrator of Elections Michele Honeycutt said you can register at your local Elections Office, online, or by mail. She said registering is the vital first step in participating in the formation of our country and county leadership.

“It’s important for them to register so that they can vote so their voice can be heard,” Honeycutt said. “I mean, everyone has an opinion. I think it’s very important to put in who you want for the candidate. Who you feel is the best. I think you should be informed before you vote.”

Honeycutt said people who come to the Elections Office to register will need two forms of identification that include their name and proof of residence in the county. She said without those, people can still register, but their cards will be sent in the mail. She said people who register in time will also be eligible to vote in the August 1 State Primary and County General Elections, and the November 5 Presidential and State Primary Elections.

“When we went to registering online, that really became easy,” Honeycutt said. “And we did get a lot of that. That’s probably where we get most of it now because it is so easy to register online.”

Honeycutt said those who wish to register online can visit govotetn.gov. She said mail-in registration is easy as well, only requiring citizens to print off a registration form from the Elections Office website, fill it out, and mail it to their local Elections Office.

“We used to, I believe a long time ago, they had to come in our office and do it in person,” Honeycutt said. “And then, I believe it was in the ’90s that you could then do it at different agencies, and of course, the Department of Safety became one of our main ones.”

She said the voter card will list the precinct assigned the every voter based on their home address. She said early voting will run from February 14 through February 27 and is the easiest, quickest way to vote.
