Vol State Looks for Adjunct Instructors

Vol State is looking for adjunct instructors for the Cookeville Higher Education Campus.

Laurie Richards directs the Cookeville campus.

“We are working on staffing the classes we already have on the schedule. And there are a few things I would like to add to our Cookeville schedule,” Richards said. “That being we currently do not have an on-ground economics class; we currently do not have an on-ground political sciences class. ”

Vol  State needs instructors in almost all disciplines, Richards said.

“We are still looking for additional teachers, Richards said. “We really need an economics teacher and a sociology teacher still.”

Since Vol State is an accredited college, the instructors must meet certain requirements, Richards said.

“We would have to have at least a masters degree for your highest level attained and then we require eighteen credit hours in the discipline that you are teaching,” Richards said. “And we do have several people that have minored in certain areas that have eighteen hours in multiple disciplines and are able to teach in multiple areas. ”

Last Thursday, Cookeville Higher Education Campus held an Adjunct Instructor Recruitment Fair. Richards said Vol State received a few promising applications.

“There were about a dozen people that came through the recruitment fair so I consider that a success,” Richards said. “We had people that were looking for possibly to teach business, education, psychology, a few things like that. ”

Richards said science instructors are one of the hardest to find.

“We would love to talk to some more people,” Richards said. “Especially if they are interested in teaching and expanding some of their horizons and helping our students expand some of their horizons as well. ”

For more information on becoming an instructor, go to the Vol State website or call Laurie Richards at 931-520-4625.
