Van Buren Mayor Wilson Will Not Run For Reelection

Van Buren Mayor Greg Wilson will not run for reelection after leading the county for eight years.

Wilson said it’s time to step away after spending more than 20 years of public service as an official.

“Not saying that I’ll never come back and ever, never run for an office, because it could happen,” Wilson said. “We’ll just have to wait and see. We own a farm, my wife and I do, and we’re going to raise a few head of cattle and just enjoy that for the next couple of years.”

Wilson said he leaves the county in good financial shape while also leaving room for growth. Wilson said the new county administration building was one of the projects meant for the future of Van Buren County.

“We built a new administration building. Ours burned there in 2015,” Wilson said. “We’re were able to build that and to look at that and what we’ve done. The previous administration had looked at a building and it was just a jail and build it for about $8 million. We built an administration building, court system, and the jail for just nearly $11 million. We built that for the future.”

Wilson also served as Spencer Mayor, a city Aldermen, and held a seat on the Board of Education before elected mayor.
