Van Buren Mayor Says He Lost Policy That Was Submitted Three Times

Van Buren County Mayor David Sullivan said he had lost a personnel policy submitted to his office three times last year.

The state auditor discovered that the Van Buren County Trustee’s Office had submitted the personnel policy in September, October, and November but the mayor’s office had taken no action. Sullivan said he could not find it.

“And that would be my fault right there,” Sullivan said. “I’ve misplaced it and I still don’t know where I’ve put it. It’s actually filed somewhere but I couldn’t tell you the location.”

Trustee Beth Simmons brought the policy to the regular commission meeting on Tuesday night.

After the policy was passed by the full commission, Commissioner Tabitha Denney asked if the holidays in the policy were the same holidays approved for other county employees.

“They’re all federal holidays,” Simmons said. “And it’s not a new personnel policy. It was submitted in September, and again in October , and then again in November. It just hasn’t made it to the agenda until now.  And audit is the one that found that.”
