Van Buren Hosting 31st Homecoming Saturday

Van Buren County will host its 31st Mountain Homecoming event this Saturday.

Chairwoman Tiffany Crain said the event will be packed with lots of food, raffles, games, and music, headlined by the popular local band Shattered. Crain said for a time they stopped the homecoming during COVID-19 and brought it back last year.

“We are a very small community, we are a very large county but population wise we’ve got a lot of people moving in here, and won’t we love that,” Crain said. “And this has just touched my heart to just see everybody back at it again because I grew up at it, my kids grew up at it, and now obviously my grandkids are there.”

The event is an all-day event that starts at 10 AM and ends after midnight. Crain said people who are from Van Buren County come from all over, to return home and celebrate.

“They come out of the woodwork,” Crain said. “This is people you just see once a year for homecoming and it’s like a family reunion to us up here on the mountain.”

Crain said the committee has worked hard to put the homecoming together.

“We are very proud of everybody,” Crain said. “We have worked hard and hard work is going to pay off Saturday night.”

Crain said planning for next year’s homecoming will begin the night of the current homecoming celebration.

“The night the homecoming ends we are starting again for the next year getting prepared,” Crain said. “Having fundraisers cause without fundraisers and our sponsors we would not be able to have this event, so it’s a full time pretty much 12-month position if you are on the committee for this event.”

The homecoming celebration will be located at the old courthouse square in downtown Spencer on July 13th.
