Van Buren High School will host an informational back to school night Tuesday evening.
Principal Katina Simmons said the event will serve both parents and students with information as the new school year begins.
“We’re really big on communication with our parents and our students,” Simmons said. “The more they know the more information they have the better is always the case. So that’s important to make sure everybody’s comfortable.”
Simmons said there will be one meeting for rising 6th graders new to the school and rising seniors as they prepare for their final year. She said the 6th-grade orientation will allow students to get a feel for their new school and meet their new teachers and faculty. She said the rising senior orientation will help students and parents with FAFSA information, college application information, “Project Graduation” information, and anything else attendees have questions about as they begin the process of their final year in high school.
Simmons said it’s important for both parents and students to attend so students will have a better idea of what to expect for the coming year, and so parents can be there to support their kids as the students navigate an important transitional period in their lives.
“Well with the parents any time you can get them involved with their children’s education is very important,” Simmons said. “I have children of my own and sometimes they didn’t communicate everything they should have perhaps. Parents there they can get all the information they need, questions that they have.”
Simmons said the senior’s event will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Van Buren High School Auditorium, with the 6th-grade orientation preceding it.
