Van Buren Commissioners Want More Info In Quarterly Reports

Two Van Buren County Commissioners want more financial information in its quarterly reports provided by some departments.

During a Tuesday night commission meeting, Commissioner Brickford Wall said he believes the reports provided do not show a complete picture of finances.

“Being asked to approve the quarterly reports, I would like to see a little bit more information on a couple of these departments to be able to have a good feel if I am comfortable with approving them or not,” Wall said.

Wall used the school system’s budget and the mayor’s office as an example. Wall said he would like to see more information about cash flow and expenditures. Wall said moving forward, he would like to review how the reports are made and what each department is required.

“This is only the second one of these I have seen, so bear with my questions,” Wall said.

Commissioner Tabitha Denney said she would also like more information about budgets during its committee meetings moving forward.

“There are a few questions that I would like to add to these quarterly reports that would give us a better view,” Denney said. “Such as the ambulance service and sheriff’s department. There are a few more areas we need to review to better prepare their budget.”

The reports were passed by the commission with just one no vote from Wall.
