Van Buren County’s Water Committee has approved a TDEC ARP spending plan for the county commission to consider.
Mayor Greg Wilson said Spencer Utility District’s raw water source project headlines the proposal.
“The City of Spencer was awarded about $2,110,000 for raw water to be pumped straight from Caney Fork to the water plant,” Wilson said. “That is not going to cover the entire cost for that project. That total project cost is around $6 million.”
Wilson said the payment would be a good start for Spencer to fund the project. The committee also approved about $475,000 for the Fall Creek Falls Utility District. The three projects include repairs to its settling basin, water tank and water plant.
“They had a total of six projects and listed them in order of importance,” Wilson said. “Those first three could be funded.”
Wilson said if the county commission votes in favor Tuesday, the county will submit the projects for TDEC approval. The county had about $2.5 million of infrastructure grants to allocate to utility districts.
“I think the money will be available sometime this late fall,” Wilson said.
