Van Buren County Commissioners will hold a special called meeting January 31st to discuss using the state insurance plan.
The county has the opportunity by March to move its employees to one of four state plans. Van Buren County Mayor David Sullivan said these are the plans only county teachers previously had access to, but the state has expanded to all county employees.
Commissioners can decide to stay with the current insurance plan, done at the county level. Sullivan said he believes it will go up some four percent this year.
The state would offer employees four different plans with lower deductibles than the current county plan. Commissioners would decide how much of any state plan they would want to cover.
Commissioners also agreed to use the January 31st meeting to clearly establish the duties of the commission’s committee A and committee B. In general terms, committee A deals with financial issues while committee B works on building issues.
