The new Cookeville Police Department will require an eight inch water line on Neal Street to be lowered.
Cookeville Water and Sewer Director Ronnie Kelly said the line interferes with the installation of a sidewalk and construction of the eastern entrance.
“The contractor will go in and insert a valve and basically, isolate a couple valves on that section of line where the rest of that water system will function,” Kelly said. “Then they will relay some new sections of line, put it together, disinfect it and put it back to service.”
The water line is located on the property away from the road and will not affect traffic on Neal Street. Kelly said the contractor for the new police department needs the line to be moved quickly since the CPD construction will be considered for approval Thursday.
“One of our project engineers in house has been dealing with our contractor out on Willow and speaking with him,” Kelly said. “I think the first couple of days next week, they plan on getting started. Tuesday or Wednesday maybe.”
City Council approved Thursday night a change order to allow Madewell Construction to start moving the line next week. Madewell Construction is currently under contract for the Willow Avenue Water Improvement Project.
The cost of the change order is $42,590.40 increasing the contracted amount to $443,980.
