Upperman HS Cafeteria To Get Redesigned Service Area Over Summer

Putnam County Schools has plans prepared to redesign the serving area of the Upperman High School cafeteria.

Deputy Director of Schools Tim Martin said a new cafe style service with different stations will be created.

“We try to make our cafeterias more along the lines of something that our students would want to come in and use,” Martin said. “This is coming about through the COVID money that we got.”

Martin said the project qualified for the funding since students will be able to select items without packed lines. Martin said the project is ready to go out for bid.

“We’ve made the plans and will be bidding it out soon,” Martin said. “It’s one of those projects that can’t be done while school is going on, so it has to be tied around the summertime.”

Martin said the district anticipates the project to cost between $200,000 to $300,000. Martin said the redesign would include new flooring.

“It will just be the serving area,” Martin said. “It won’t be out into the dining area.”
