The state parks across the Upper Cumberland are offering guided hikes this new year as a part of its signature hike series.
The program schedules four ranger-lead hikes each year. Fall Creek Falls Savannah Couser said 57 state parks will participate in the First Day Hikes on Sunday.
“We’re going to be offering a hike down to the bottom of Fall Creek Falls,” Couser said. “We are going to be looking at our tallest waterfall here at the park at 256 feet tall. It is one of the highest waterfalls in the eastern US.”
Couser said she recommends hiking shoes, durable clothing and water for the mile and a half hike. Couser said it begins at 9:00 a.m.
“It is a free falling water fall,” Couser said. “What that means is it doesn’t hit rock from the point it starts to the very bottom. It is very beautiful and cascades into a pool of water.”
Couser said you have to register on the state park’s website in order to participate. If you cannot make it to Fall Creek Falls, the other state parks in the Upper Cumberland will host similar hikes.
Couser said she has been a part of the First Day Hikes since 2017. Couser said there is nothing better than spending your first morning of the year in a state park.
