The Upper Cumberland Quilt Festival has made the decision to postpone its 32nd show until April 1st and 2nd.
Coordinator John Allen said the decision came after tracking rising COVID cases and consulting Putnam County Health Director Lisa Bumbalough.
“When you consider the age of the people who come to the Quilt Festival, a majority of our clientele and guests are older,” Allen said. “Our volunteers are older, and our board is older. So we, taking all those things into consideration, we just felt like we had no other choice right now.”
Because the Quilt Festival is an indoor, hands-on show, Allen said that they wanted to postpone it until they were able to host it safely. He said that the festival will have three special exhibitions, with a workshop for younger crowds.
Allen said that he believes after postponing for a second year, people will be excited to get back out again.
“Just like we had overwhelming attendance at the fair,” Allen said. “Because people are tired of being cooped up. And I think come April, we’ll have overwhelming attendance at the Quilt Festival.”
Allen said because the festival must be indoors to protect the quilts, they will have plenty of safety protocols to make sure people will stay healthy. He said that he hopes by April, more people will be vaccinated and ready to get out.
