Uplands Village launches its first-ever Christmas Tree Extravaganza Monday.
Uplands Village Director of Marketing Keith Mills said local companies and organizations are donating Christmas trees and decorations to help the campus get in the Christmas spirit. Mills said the event will serve as a mood booster for the assisted living residents.
“The response that we have gotten from the residents so far is just overwhelming,” Mills said. “There is a lot of them that they basically said getting to see all the decorations and be around them for such a long period of time it kind of brings out the kid in them.”
Mills said they will keep the decorations up until after Christmas. Mills said he is very thankful that the Cumberland County Community has been willing to help with this event.
“It is just awesome the amount of support that the communities in Cumberland County and surrounding areas give,” Mills said. “The companies that are coming to do this it’s not just they are coming to put up a tree and that’s it. Uplands Village is also going to advertise for those communities you know, just to let everyone know that hey, these people, these companies, these organizations are helping out.”
Mills said Uplands Village got the extravaganza idea from other assisted living places.
“We’ve seen a couple of other places that have done this and it just goes over really well,” Mills said. “We are in a very rural spot and we thought if we can get people out here to do this it would just make it great for our residents over the Christmas season.”
Mills said many people including himself have questioned putting up Christmas decorations before Thanksgiving. Mills said it was best logistically to go ahead and put them up. Mills also said the benefit is that the residents will get to enjoy the decorations longer.
Mills said he hopes to turn the extravaganza into a tradition and do it for the years to come. Uplands Village is a facility that offers a variety of services including assisted living for people 55 years and older.
