Palace Theatre Promoting Awareness Week, Safety

Crossville’s Palace Theatre promoting Severe Weather Awareness Week by showing the movie “Twisters” Friday night.

Palace Theatre Administrator Malena Fischer said the theatre is only charging $5 for admission and all proceeds will go to a local organization called Creative Passion which will distribute weather radios throughout the community.

“It’s a great way to just let people know about the severe weather that we can have around here,” Fischer said. “The past few weeks have been a testament to that and get word out about things you can do to be prepared for severe weather.”

Fischer said the Palace Theatre has promoted Severe Weather Awareness Week for the past several years. Fischer said the Palace Theatre has teamed up with local Meteorologist Mark Baldwin and the Crossville Cumberland County Emergency Management Agency to put this together.

“I don’t know all the details but they take requests from people who need those weather radios and don’t have them,” Fischer said. “Sometimes it may be a family member that has an elderly relative that needs one and those proceeds go into a fund and they distribute those radios to people who need them. It’s a great service especially around here, especially, well any month in the Upper Cumberland you never know what the weather is gonna do.”

Fisher said they are adding a new twist this year as those who attend will have a chance to win door prizes. Fischer said coming out to see the movie “Twisters” would be a great affordable date idea.

“Mark calls it our F-5 concession special,” Fischer said. “You get popcorn, candy, and a drink all for just $5. So you can get your ticket and your concessions for $10 so it’s a cheap date and it’s a fun entertaining night and you get a little bit of weather awareness while you are at it.”

The Palace Theatre will show the movie Friday at 7pm.
