The Upper Cumberland Regional Airport has had its Aiport Layout Plan approved by the Federal Aviation Administration.
Manager Dean Selby said that the plan serves essentially as a 10-year master plan for airport projects and operations.
“Any federal grants that we apply for, the first question is ‘Is it on your approved ALP?'” Selby said. “And if it’s not on your approved ALP, you’re not eligible for grant money. So everything has to be on here to be eligible to submit to the FAA for their infrastructure grant program, so that’s the big thing for us.”
Selby said that it’s taken about nine months to receive approval. He said that the approval takes into account projections from the FAA, TDOT, and from the airport itself.
Selby said that the plan takes into account everything from the height of trees to the size of the airport’s hangars.
“There’s a lot to review,” Selby said. “We’re looking at the drawings of it but there is also a booklet that’s about 400 pages long that describes every little thing that’s going on. So there’s a lot to review.”
Selby said that the ALP does not include commercial air flight plans.
