As cold weather begins, UCHRA plans to use a $240,000 grant to set up shelter for people waiting on the UCHRA bus routes.
UCHRA Executive Director Mark Farley said there are routes running in a circle to take those in need of transportation where they need to go. Farley said this started in Cookeville and will look to spread shelters into the two newest cities to get this services.
“We’ve got buses that are constantly in a circle route, going from location to location and we’ve also started that in McMinnville and in Cumberland County, Crossville,” Farley said. “This grant is to put bus shelters, basically places where people can get out of the weather and wait for the vans to come through.”
Farley said there are not any shelter locations set up yet. For example, these shelters would be on Cookeville routes that take people from places like Jackson Plaza to Kroger to Walmart.
