UCEMC Hosting Yearly District Elections This Week

UCEMC members will have a chance to elect three district directors this weekend.

CEO and General Manager Jennifer Brogdon said three seats are voted annually on a rotational basis. The winners of each race will serve on a nine-person board.

“This is one of the things that makes an electric cooperative special,” Brogdon said. “We have a democratic process, and our directors and the election of those are controlled by our members. So we really want folks to show up.”

Brogdon said the main race will be in District three which includes Clay, Fentress, Overton and Pickett County. Brogdon said Incumbent James West has been challenged by Stormy Halsell.

“Our organization is controlled by our members, so we have a board that makes decision about the company in the interest of our members,” Brogdon said. “So getting folks to run for the board to represent the interest of their members is really important.”

The incumbents of Districts one and four will run unopposed. C.D. Poindexter runs unopposed in district one and Jim Brown for district four.  The polls will be open at four UCEMC offices Friday and Saturday. You can find your poll location by visiting the UCEMC website.
