UCDD gearing up to host another Senior and Caregiver Expo this Tuesday at Cookeville’s Life Church.
Family Caregiver Coordinator Clare Farless said the expo serves to provide resources ranging from in-home services to legal advice for the senior population and their caregivers.
“Bringing all these resources in under one roof and making it so accessible to seniors is our main goal,” Farless said. “Because a lot of people don’t know there are those resources out there for them and we try to tap into those.”
Farless said the expo can prove beneficial to professionals as well. Farless said through this expo, they have seen success in helping seniors, caregivers, and industry professionals uncover hidden resources unknown to them before.
Farless said they’ve even seen success in other ways. She said one year, the National Kidney Foundation set up a booth to do health screenings. She said one expo attendee got a screening, and discovered that his blood pressure was near stroke level.
“And his wife said to tell us that we saved his life,” Farless said. “Because if he hadn’t gone he would have had a massive stroke and would probably not be with us today. So there is a lot of benefit and value to this event, and sometimes that value can come from unexpected places.”
Farless said the expo is free for all who wish to attend. She said Quality Family Healthcare will be providing lunch. Doors open at 8:30 a.m.
