UCDD Offering Free SNAP Application Assistance

UCDD is offering free SNAP application assistance to those who qualify.

SNAP, or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, provides individuals with monthly benefits to buy food. SNAP Coordinator Miranda Malin said adults 60 and older and/or disabled can take advantage of the service.

“There are a lot of folks, especially with our population that don’t have the ability to get into the DHS offices or even get online to do an application,” Malin said. “So, we’re kind of the middle man between the two.”

Malin said those interested can call (931) 319-7991. Malin said once calling, individuals will be screened to receive an application in the mail. Malin said the form would already be completed, and just require a signature of the individual.

“We just need some general information like name, phone number, date of birth and address,” Malin said. “Then, we go on to ask a series of questions in terms of income, assets, monthly bills.”

Malin said finished applications can be sent back to the UCDD office. Malin said application assistance is available year round.
