UC Remembers 9/11 Through A Series Of Memorials

The Upper Cumberland remembers the 20^th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks Saturday with events across the region.

Cumberland County will kick off with a memorial service at 7:30 a.m. at the county fire department. Those who lost their lives will be honored through patriotic singing and recognitions.

The Livingston/Overton County Chamber of Commerce will also hold a 9/11 Memorial Service at the Downtown Square. Participants will observe two minutes of silence while linking hands around the courthouse.

The gathering will end with a moment of prayer. It begins at 8:30 a.m.

Tennessee Tech’s ROTC Eagle Battalion will honor 9/11 victims through a stair climb open to the public. The endeavor of 26 flights of stairs will begin at 8:46 a.m., the exact time the first tower was hit.

White County will gather at Metcalf Park at 10:00 a.m. for a day of service and remembrance. The event hosted by the county’s Veterans Museum, Veterans Service Office and American Legion Post 99.

Some seating will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.

Fairfield Glade will wrap things up with a three hour afternoon of remembrance at 1:00 p.m. Emergency vehicles will be on display, food vendors will be open and a special concert with local artist Meliss Ellis.

The Fairfield Glade Square will have a veterans and first responders memorial with a ceremony at 1:30 p.m. Special speakers of local officials and service organizations such as Mayor Allen Foster will participate.
