UC Regional Airport Working On Agreement With Motlow State For Courses At Airport

Upper Cumberland Regional Airport working on leasing agreement with Motlow State to hold courses at the airport.

Airport Manager Dean Selby said this will be a great way to get more people from the north side of the county to the airport as well as provide more educational opportunities for students. He said right now, the agreement would be to host some of Motlow State’s medical training courses.

“They thought it was a good idea to tie it in with the Erlinger, we have an Erlinger base and med-trams, medical helicopter base,” Selby said. “And they thought it would be a good place to colocate a facility to do their EMT, health sciences classes, and other medical type classes.”

Selby said the lease agreement is on a monthly basis to utilize the classrooms the airport already has on-site. He said that means there would not be any infrastructure costs associated with the partnership.

Selby said eventually, they hope to include aviation courses in that agreement. He said they are currently working on a schedule to start the courses at the airport.

“We’re really excited about this prospect,” Selby said. “I think it will be a big benefit both for the airport and for students to get a new kind of learning experience.”
