The Upper Cumberland Regional Airport has the first UC Air Fair, a two-day event in October.
Aviation Event Consultant Greg Gibson said the design is to offer something beyond just aircraft. Gibson said there will be a unique take on the 5K, lit by hot air balloons and neon flights at night.
“They do a formation flight through these lit pylons that will be coinciding about the same time in the evening as the 5K,” Gibson said. “It’s an interesting backdrop along with the fact that you’re running on an actual airport runway, lit up by its taxiway and runway lights.”
Gibson said that October 22 and 23 will feature food trucks, live music and U.S. Military Aircraft. Gibson said it is too early to announce any musical acts but more information will be released on social media in the lead up to the UC Air Fair.
Airport Manager Dean Selby said vendor applications and tickets are open on the airport’s website.
“We’re anticipating several thousand people here,” Selby said. “It will be a lot to do and a lot to see. I hope that we’ve got enough to keep people active all around so that they’re going to get bored. We’re putting enough different things to do so that people can stay engaged throughout the day and across a couple of days.”
Selby said that it has been awhile since an event like this has happened at the airport. Selby said he got introduced to Gibson and took their idea to the airport board.
