Upper Cumberland Habitat for Humanity is hosting its 27th annual Cooking on the Square event Friday to continue its building efforts for families in need.
Habitat for Humanity hopes to raise $125,000 through Friday’s event. Director of Development Ashley Smith said residents can help deserving homeowners begin the process to home ownership.
“We are super excited,” Smith said. “We hear pretty regularly that Cooking on the Square is one of the best events in the Upper Cumberland and we really take honor in that.”
Some 65-plus teams will be cooking Friday. The $25 ticket will get attendees all-you-can-eat cajun cuisine and baked goods. The event takes place 11am-1pm Friday around the Putnam County Courthouse.
Coupled with the springtime Dreambuilder’s Luncheon, two new homes will be paid for by Habitat for Humanity’s Upper Cumberland events. The future homeowner of the house built by this event will be selected by a Homeowners Committee from a pool of applicants.
“It’s going to be another great year for coming out and eating lunch and helping us, as a community, build a house and put a roof over a family’s head,” Smith said.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to offer a donation and sign a wall that will be on-site before being moved and used as part of the house that is built.
Tickets are available on the Upper Cumberland Habitat for Humanity website and will be available at the entrance to the event for $30.
